    4K Ultra HD playback only
Roku 4, Premiere, Premiere+, Ultra (paired with a compatible 4K HDTV)
    Roku 4K TVs
    VIZIO P-Series 4K HDTVs
    VIZIO M-Series 4K HDTVs
    Nvidia Shield TV*
Google Chromecast Ultra (Dolby Vision will be available pending an firmware update from Google)
    Xbox One S*

4K Ultra HD + Dolby Vision HDR playback
    VIZIO Reference Series HDTVs
    VIZIO 2016 Smartcast P-Series 4K TVs
    VIZIO 2016 Smartcast M-Series 4K TVs
    LG 2016 OLED 4K TVs - G6, E6, C6 & B6 Models*
LG 2016 Super UHD 4K TVs*

    More information at: www.vudu.com/UHD
*Available with latest firmware update. Due to variances in TV manufacturing not all devices within models may not compatible.

Question regarding VUDU's offerings and distribution method for movies:
    • Why can't you offer all of your content for purchase (3D/UHD/etc.) vs. segmenting by devices?
    • As a consumer why can't I log in through my TV or XBox or PC and purchase/play whatever I want through my devices? It would seem to me I should at least be able to *see* and purchase what I want. If my device cant handle 4K then I could play the HDX, If my device cant play 3D then send it through and I just wont be able to watch it...

I do not understand what, if any, technical hurdles there are to allow this so I'm curious.

What VUDU has created is not only segmented visibility but also segmented playback based on products consumers have. My example:
    • Sony X930D - Top of the line 4k HDR TV, 3D capable (I bought is specifically for the 3D because I actually really like it...) released in 2016. Via the built in VUDU app I cannot see, purchase, or play UHD or 3D content despite owning said content.
    • Xbox One S - I can see and purchase UHD content, however cannot see, purchase, or play back 3D movies
    • Chromecast (Not Ultra) - I cannot see UHD content, however I can play my 3D movies

It's frustrating and a head scratcher that I have to use 3 different devices to just *see* VUDU's content.

I also am struggling to understand how my 4k, UHD, HDR, 3D TV which has been out for nearly 1 year is not yet supported. When will Sony and Samsung TV's be supported for UHD (or 3D for the last breath of 3D TV's)?

Again at this point I'm just trying to understand more... Please help!

So do i now have to upgrade to a roku premire plus to play VUDU with hdr whenever it becomes available in HDR10? I just bought a samsung K8500 blu ray player but i have alot of money invested in VUDU UHD titles so i want it to be up to date.
I hear ya - I first got a KS9000 TV, then I needed to get a new AVR that would support 4K HDR. I finally settled on a Roku Ultra.

You will need to upgrade to either the Premier+ or Ultra to get HDR:

No one has heard a timeframe on when Vudu is going to start supporting HDR10. At this rate, I wouldn't hold your breath - they seem to like to take their sweet time.

I am guessing they restrict content based on what Vudu can detect to prevent accidental purchases where you might buy a UHD movie but not have a device that will play UHD (or 3D).

And I believe some of the 3D issues are up to the device manufacturer, not Vudu:

As for Samsung UHD support - Jake in Vudu engineering has previously stated that the Vudu app for the Samsung TVs is ready to go - they are waiting on firmware fixes from Samsung.

          Hello,

Is the Xbox One S capable of "streaming" Atmos content on Vudu? I know the Xbox One S won't decode from a disc, but can't find anything about streaming.

I've gone through different equipment to figure out what's best. PS3 won't Vudu stream Atmos content but will from Blu-ray discs but doesn't play UHD discs.

Roku Premiere is on the compatible list and when I hooked it it up, played Atmos great over Vudu.

Since Xbox One S is on the Vudu UHD compatible list, thought I'd get that since it plays UHD discs and would play Atmos with Vudu streaming, but it's not working.

I know Microsoft is working on an update for playing Atmos while viewing Blu-ray discs, but doesn't address if it'll work with streaming as well.

New 2016 Samsung TV firmware update (1165) and today Vudu app updated on TV, Still no UHD option.

Is this an app permission (privilege) issue?

Re: VUDU UHD - Compatible Devices List

I want to add a tv to the compatible devices list.

The Vizio model D65u-D2 65" 4K UHD Smart HDTV with VIA VUDU App streams/plays 4K UHD content in the native VUDU App among others.

I thought it was the only Vizio D-Series capable of playing 4K UHD content on VUDU, but after going through an odyssey of buying a totally unnecessary Google Chromecast Ultra to view UHD on VUDU (after reading the VUDU the compatible devices info on the VUDU site and seeing my TV was EXcluded) and getting deep into updated info buried online, I've discovered that the the 4K models in Vizio D Series (designated by a "U" for ULTRA in the model #) are ALL supposed to be compatible with 4K UHD on VUDU now.

I can only be 100% positive about the Vizio D65u-D2 65" 4K UHD Smart HDTV because I just purchased one, but I tend to believe the updated information from Vizio that all 4K D-Series Vizio models can now stream/display 4K UHD on VUDU.

I did decide to keep the Chromecast Ultra anyway......and I'm currently trying to decide on a box to use Kodi (the NVidia Shield, Mi Box, Fire TV, or the upcoming Apple 5 with hopefully 4K & the Kodi fork) and it's a tough call bc the Vizio comes with so many awesome 4K Apps in the native VIA dock that those boxes pretty much duplicate the Vizio except for Kodi and having a jailbroken ecosystem - or a 4K Apple one, which I definitely want bc I have one foot in Android & one in Apple.

                  TL;DR
Anyway, that's an extremely long way to add a device, lol. Please update the OP with the Vizio D65u-D2 and a note that all 4K models in the Vizio D-Series are supposed to be compatible now as well.

I recently found out that xbox one has an insider program that allows you to try new things that are in the beta stage. So i signed up for that then a week later i saw that under the blu ray tab in the settings menu it had a option for your receiver to decode the audio format with (beta) right next to it. So i clicked that and i popped in Deadpool in 4k and atmos popped up on my receiver. It sounded really good but when action got real intense the sound started getting really choppy. So they are making progress but it's definetly buggy which is why it's a beta.
