Re: VUDU UHD - Compatible Devices List

That's good to hear. I just thought that ARC, in general, was not going to be able to handle that much audio. Streaming anything on my Sony 850C TV is much better than my xbox 1, tivo, roku, and LG "smart" tv. I can hardly stream vudu HDX wirelessly on my LG tv from a 2012. It makes me happy to hear that ARC can handle some better audio, since my best device for UHD right now is my 850C.

I can confirm the LG 75UH8500 (2016) VUDU app doesn't support UHD yet. Very disappointed.

Re: VUDU UHD - Compatible Devices List

You can get any VuDu UHD content on most any 4K UHD TV regardless of brand if you go thru the 4K version Roku "and" your 4K UHD TV supports HDCP 2.2.
Supporting HDCP 2.2 is the key here.
HDCP 2.0 won't do it. Sorry.
And by using the 4K Roku, make sure the Roku screen type is set to 4K, not 1080p.
Otherwise VuDu UHD films will error message "2.2 not supported on this TV".
All you need to do is set the Roku screen output to 4K for your 4K HDCP 2.2 compliant TV.

The TV sourced VuDu APP installed on most all UHD TV's sets will not do VuDu 4K.
Only a select Vizio models have the 4K functional VuDu app installed.
So, you must go thru the 4K Roku.

          VuDu 4K UHD movies.
          Roku the 4K version.
Any 4K UHD TV supporting HDCP 2.2
And you're all set to go.

I use an LG 4K UHD TV 2016 make, and the 4K Roku, and my VuDu UHD library play with no issues and the UHD films look outstanding.
Compare using the 2-minute preview and see for yourself.
Definitely a huge quality difference between VuDu UHD and the VuDu HDX version.

I just wish VuDu would come down in pricing on their 4K UHD offerings.
          29 bucks is a lot for 4K.
At least VuDu Inc, please have a sale on UHD films every once in a while.
          Maybe even a little sale?

I think many of us are well aware we could use the new Roku to get VUDU UHD. The point is, we do NOT want that, when we have other devices that should be able to run it, if VUDU would develop/enable support for it.

I have a Roku 4 but also realize that the Roku 4 doesn't support HDR (Dolby Vision) which makes a bigger difference than just going from 1080p to 2160p.

Owning a 4k TV has been one of the biggest let downs in technology for me. The TV I have works great, and it is the best picture I have ever had in my home. However....I was thinking that owning a TV that has been out for a year would mean that the apps would all the up to par. Not only does Vudu not support 3d on my Sony TV, but it is showing no signs of getting a 4k conversion any time soon. I'd be surprised if it gets it EVER at this point.

The advent of the 4k market has been a big let down because of all the delays in getting the technology out to the majority of brands/models etc. There seems to be deals with certain streaming providers with manufacturers and only one provider works on only one TV brand, etc. It doesn't seem to be getting any better soon and this is a big PITA.

Dolby Vision is working for me on the LG, but has anyone been able to get Dolby Atmos over ARC or is a separate optical cable necessary?

Tried two titles in UHD, The Conjuring and the Intern in 4K UHD on my Dolby vision 65" LG G6. Unfortunately something is very wrong with the color, everything has a very strong green tint and lacks red. Standard HDX titles look normal so it something wrong either with the "app" or the way the video is being encoded or decoded. Hopefully they will get it fixed soon. I'm gonna call tech support and try to get a refund. The detail on the movies is great, but the color is awful. It's like looking through green tinted glasses.

No, you should be able to get Atmos if you have an Atmos capable setup. I'm getting Atmos on my Denon receiver but I have a Vizio TV.
