im hearing that new 4k blu ray players will have the new vudu 4k app built in, and any HDR tv will have access to the HDR movies.
Great, but the question is does the HDR equate to Dolby Vision since all of the 4k movies from Vudu are Dolby Vision?

    20 UHD
    754 HDX
    2 SD

from what I have been told, if you have an HDR tv, and you try to access the DV HDR movies from vudu, you will get the base layer HDR, but obviously not DV (if you have a regular HDR tv but no dolby vision tv).

I have 2 4k movies from vudu already purchased. so when the new 4k players come out, i will be able to test it and make sure. I will definitely report the test results not only on this forum but on the other forums I am on as well. I believe you post in my HDR thread over on AVS quite often.

Yes I do, can't wait until the 4k players come out.

The "base layer" is HEVC Main10 (10 bit color) w/ rec.709 colorspace. DolbyVision enhancement layer extends that to 12 bit color and DV color space (similar to bt.2020).

Unfortunately supporting other HDR standards is not as simple as re-encoding to the new spec. The source has to be graded for that specific standard, so studios will need to do that work and provide a source for each one, encoding tools need to handle them differently, etc.

Up until recently there was very little HDR "standard" other than DolbyVision; now that UHD Alliance spec (& UHD Blu-Ray) is finally (more or less) set, hopefully things will get simpler.

The Computer Im using to type this is 4K hooked to a 65" Vizio. However some of the over 800 movies I already have are UHD compatible and show a UHD tab around the Movie thumbnail but when you go to play it it only shows HDX playable with option to buy UHD for around $29.95. So I not going to pay that but would like to try out UHD from my computer to UHD TV. Fallout 4 is incredibility 4K UHD.

Will playback be possible on PC? Internet explorer, Chrome, etc? I have high end hardware fully capable of playing resolutions up to and beyond 4K as well as audio capabilities up to 7.1 Dolby/DTS. I also have 65 Mb/sec internet connection.

Provided the whole system monitor, graphics card, etc) is HDCP compliant probably.

As of a couple days ago, I was able to get 4K content on my LG tv (LG 55UF6450), but since the last app update, it will no longer play the movies I purchased in 4k. I don't understand why an update to the app would remove functionality rather than improve it.

I am running into the same issue with the 65uf8500. I previous had the UHD option, but waited to make a purchase. I wanted to make a purchase, but now it is unavailable. LG had me to check for updates about 15 times... Hmmm Why didn't I think of that? (note sarcasm). I ended up doing a factory reset and the option is still unavailable. Starting to think I should have went with Samsung....

Is there an update on when the VIZIO D-Series will be certified for VUDU UHD? I already have a rather large list of VUDU UHD titles in my library and can't wait to view them on my Vizio D55u-D1.

Can you PM me your email address so I can look up your account? This is strange since currently, we don't have any LG TVs certified for 4K.

                          **question for vudu support***

Will the upcoming 4k blu ray players be vudu 4k capable? Particularly the samsung 4k player launching in a couple weeks.

Just took delivery of the new Samsung 4k bluray player UBD-K8500. The Vudu app is on the player but the app gives an error when you try to use it.

Is there a way to fix this?

Have you tried to manually check for firmware/software updates? Maybe it needs an update, especially since it sounds like you just hooked it up.
