It's because Vudu still doesn't support HDR-10 but Dolby Vision HDR instead. They've said that it will be supported in the future but don't know when? The Roku HDR products are HDR-10. Same is true of the Samsung TVs.

Its quite interesting that they don't support HDR-10 yet when most devices, TV's, and the movie industries support it vs. supporting DV-HDR. Could this be that they have some sort of agreement/alliance with Vizio which currently only supports DV-HDR? They advertise a Vizio TV within their 4K UHD sub-space (https://www.watchvudu.com/uhd/)....

@JeffreyVUDU It would be nice if VUDU would list expected or upcoming devices that will receive support for UHD vs. just listing current supported devices. I have a brand new Sony 4K HDR Android TV and the pre-installed app doesn't support UHD and no word on IF you will even support it on this new TV.

The CEO announced that they would support HDR10 but didn't say when. But it shouldn't be that hard since it's an open standard unlike Dolby Vision which requires chips and $$$. Maybe your right though... since they sided with Dolby Vision (it was the only one available at the time according to them) they may have to wait before doing HDR10. If not though, they should implement it quick. Them not supporting HDR10 makes for watching HDR content that much more difficult.

Well everyone, I guess we don't have to wait on Vudu anymore. Google play now offers UHD movies, and they have a ton of them. Cnet reported on it yesterday... I just hate to have to split my library:

Until Google Play Videos becomes a part of the Ultraviolet club, I don't see that as a valid choice for the reason you stated at the end; splitting up your library. But if they did become part of Ultraviolet, it would be amazing. For now we're left with Vudu getting support for HDR10 and the devices that support it (which is pretty much every HDR device out there).

So we are creeping up on a full month of no updates I see. Any word for the Vudu powers that be on any more devices being added. This holiday season all I saw were 4k tv's flying off the shelf. All these people will be looking for 4k content, and it would be an ideal time to update VUDU for smart TV's. Loosing new business from people who log onto vudu for the first time on their Smart TV/Game console and they see no 4k content. I for one bought a Samsung, was all excited to do some 4k, and now I'm stuck with older (not the best looking) netflix 4k, short Youtube videos that do look excellent, and what Hulu calls 4k. I do have an Xbox S so I am buying 4k blurays but it would be even better to be able to access the 4k movies I now have on Vudu.

Seriously. Please get more studio support VUDU. I only buy digital films here, and there are so many 4k titles out that I can't get my hands on due to the lack of studio support. Please try to work out a deal with Sony, Fox, Paramount, and Lionsgate to sell their UHD library here.

Also, I am currently using the Roku 4 ultra to stream my 4k VUDU content. Please update the app to allow the Roku 4 to utilize the HDR features of your UHD library. That option is currently greyed out. Thank you.

It's greyed out because, currently, VUDU doesn't support HDR10 yet which is what the Roku Ultra uses. VUDU only supports Dolby Vision but they did announce that they will be supprting HDR10 but no one knows when. As far as studio support, it's not all Vudu's fault, if you are referring to the ultraviolet support. There are some studios that don't provide the 4K ultraviolet code when you buy the 4K Blu-Ray: Paramount for example. Sony also only supports 4K streaming on their 4K TV's. But VUDU does have blame for those studios that give you the 4K digital code but VUDU doesn't provide it: Lionsgate is an example. But eventually they will all port to VUDU in 4K HDR. But it needs to be sooner than later. I'm pretty sure there have a lot of purchased 4K TV's this season and some, like myself, are frustrated with the disconnect with some of the studios.

Great to hear about their HDR support. I'm just impatient i suppose. I see something huge like the Hunger Games films come out on UHD disc and and it bothers me that I am unable to enjoy them. I don't own a 4k disc player, so i rely on streaming. I generally get my content through redeeming codes on VUDU.There are so many quality titles out there that I am unable to access.

I'm also a bit confused about the rollout of paramount's catalogue. So Star Trek Beyond is available in UHD, but not Star Trek or Star Trek Into Darkness? Both were released on UHD disc when Star Trek Beyond was released.
