Re: VUDU UHD - Compatible Devices List

I can't even fathom how retarded it is that UHD titles are available to purchase on my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge but not my Samsung TV or UHD player.

Who wants to watch 4K on a phone!?

        Hello Sgscott,

Can you check to make sure the video settings on the Xbox is properly set for 4K. Displaying UHD content in the Vudu UI is dependent on the Xbox Video settings and the detection it gets from your display regarding 4K, HDCP etc....

        Thanks

          1. Am I able to instantly view the movie on my tv? if so how?
          2. Since I do not have and do not intend to purchase a "box like Roku" what good is a dvd?
          3. Must I purchase a Roku device because I will only be able to view the movie after I have the DVD in my hands, and can only view the movie with the Roku box?

Simply stated, if I buy an UHD movie that shows the title as being able to be rented, can I view it instantly on my TV?

Thank Your for Your kind and capable assistance.

          Hello Ron
If you buy something on Vudu (in any quality) you get instant access and can play it right away (as long as its not a pre-order). There is no DVD involved. All you need is a TV that has the VUDU app on it and you can launch VUDU sign in to your account and start playing your owned/rented content immediately.

(Note: ROKU is a set top box and does not play DVDs)

          Thanks

            Hello boojitede,

We are working with Samsung to support UHD content on their Samsung 2016 TVs. There are still some issues we are working with Samsung to resolve so that users get the best experience while viewing UHD on Samsung TVs.

            Thanks

I gave up. Got a Roku Ultra so I can see UHD.

                Hello lujan,

The UHD tag should also not be displayed on ROKUs. There currently a bug where it is displayed even when the title is owned. A fix will be deployed in the future to address this.

It would not surprise me if Samsung is strong-arming Vudu to pay them to allow UHD streaming.

Why would Samsung in a position to strong-arm VUDU? This functionality would only sell more Samsung TV's. If anything, I'd think VUDU would be having Samsung pay them. But then again, I don't understand all the business dynamics at play.

I'd like to see VUDU UHD / HDR titles playback on my 2016 Sony Bravia, though. Until then I'm not buying any UHD content.

Why? For money of course. They are already selling plenty of TVs, and not just because they have a Vudu app. Vudu has to rely on TV makers, computers vendors, and mobile devices to generate revenue. Vudu charge higher prices for UHD, and I believe Samsung is so money-driven that they will "try" to force Vudu to give a cut of the profit.

As they say, nothing personal, just business.

Did you ever get an answer to this? Amazon and Netflix now support HDR on the 9600.

Re: VUDU UHD - Compatible Devices List

I got UHD through XB1 but I'm hesitant to buy a title given I have a Sammy UHD BR player. Why would anyone pay 30.00 for an online only digital copy when the physical UHD with HDR (works on any HDR compatible set) is on avg 2.00 less and superior in quality?

While I admit Vudu's streaming algorithm is pretty good.. its not 30.00 good when I cant play when the internet goes out.

I only say this because before the XB1 got UHD from Vudu I really wanted the feature (my JS9000 will NEVER get it) but once I got the ability I realized I would rather buy the disk for slightly less.
if UHD was 10.00 less I would consider it.. really.. why is it the same as physical if not more?
                            there is ZERO packaging cost.

Just realized that if you own a Roku 4, LG or Samsung, and the title is UHD in UV, you can use the FandangoNow app to watch the movie in UHD - and in HDR!!
