I tried side loading the latest app on my 930E and while 4K non HDR stuff works fine, anything with HDR I get "encountered network error with playback"

It's been a while since I tried it but if you want to suggest some titles (and I also have them) I'll go ahead and test for you?

The lack of a time frame for an updated Vudu UHD app is frustrating.

Vizio TVs and the Chromecast Ultra should be removed from the HDR list as they don't seem to fully support HDR anymore. It's kind of misleading to still have them on there. My Chromecast Ultra won't even play some of the titles I own in 4K/UHD any more.

@Jake has gone stealth, he's playing Metal Gear Solid on his Playstation.

I tried on my X930 and had the same result on multiple movies. I was excited when I saw Dolby vision, then network error. I don't no why we cant get a time frame from Jake or Jeffrey on the 4k HDR Vudu app for Sony 2017s.

We have an app almost ready to go, but have found several HDR10 & Dolby Vision playback issues that may not be resolved without a TV firmware update (which could be several months out).

If we were to release an app in the near future it would support 4K SDR only.

This is currently the case for Vizio displays.

For what tv model ? Vizio or Sony....2017 Sony's have the same x1-xtreme processor as the 2018 TV's which you guys have stated will have an onboard 4k/HDR app....So why cant the same app be available for the 2017's ?

Here is a question with regard to very spotty HDR support.

At what point do we 2017 Sony owners decide to: 1) buy a Roku Ultra or Stick+; 2) buy an Xbox One S/X; or 3) become proper 'videophiles' and support 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray?

April? May? June? Black Friday 2018???

At around $25.00 for a 4K/HDR?non-rentable?streaming premium, I just might be inclined to stick with discs for the duration of this saga.

PS - [*[*[*(no comment on Blu-ray being a Sony standard)*]*]*]

There was a Sony 2017 TV firmware release 2 days ago to fix Amazon playback issues. The last firmware update was in January.

There?s really no reason not to release the Vudu app as it can always be updated. Speaking of which both the Netflix and Amazon apps, which come with the TV, got updates recently from the Google Play Store automatically. Vudu could also be updated the same way. 4K support could be added now and then once HDR is working, another update could be pushed out.

edit: Johnboy brings up a good point. The video processor in the 2018 Sony TVs is the same one as the high end 2017 TVs. If HDR works on the 2018 TVs, it should work on the 2017 TVs.

Unless Vudu starts to refund customers, I would recommend them to remove the Chromecast Ultra and Shield off their compatibility list. This has been an ongoing issue for the last 3 months. Lawsuits could be just around the corner.

I'm here to request UHD support for Sony OLEDs - I have a XBR55A1E, and the lack of 4K/UHD support for the Android TV app was surprising. I'm ready to make Vudu my primary service (i.e. spend more money than I probably should) whenever you add support......

                            Thanks!

Jake, I'm sure that we would all be pleased if VUDU would release an 4K only update as BETA or a 4k SDR only update with the hopes of an HDR update at a later date. Maybe Apple could help VUDU out and it would be a win-win for VUDU and the Apple TV 4K. After all, Apple TV 4K appears to be the only HDMI device that supports Dolby Vision with the 2017 Sony 4K HDR TVs.
