I get occasional buffering when I rewind or fast forward a UHD selection. Happens once every 2-3 times I skip forward or backwards.

This is rubbish, as everything is HDCP 2.2. I've tried turning things off and on, and resetting the Apple TV, but nothing changes. I've tried different resolutions & HDR settings, and refresh rates, but no go. Any other app works fine, and iTunes outputs 4K HDR without issue. My TiVo Bolt also has no issues with 4K with the cable. Does the app have a problem with HDR-10 only devices? What's going on? Please fix this!

Any chance for some help? Thanks!

I checked with our Apple TV lead developer and that HDCP compatibility message is not a Vudu app error, it's an Apple TV player system message.

We did notice that when the Apple TV can't use HDCP 2.2 the iTunes app will transparently stream lower resolutions while still saying it's "4K". The Vudu app does not do this, so if there is an HDCP 2.2 issue it will not play.

The hdfury unit is providing HDCP 2.2, and confirms iTunes is streaming 4K and HDR. That is why I'm perplexed. The error shows in the Vudu app. Does the lead developer have any other ideas on the problem? Thanks!

As I said, we found that iTunes may transparently stream 1080p HDR (and then probably upscales - may be hard to tell the difference?) if HDCP 2.2 is not properly engaged. Also, it must support "HDCP 2.2 Type 1 enforcement" which it's possible the HDFury isn't doing (the point of that feature is in fact to prevent HDCP converters like that).

But anyway, as I said that error message is not generated by Vudu - the app passes the video to the Apple TV player, and the player is putting up the message. There isn't much we can do.

Jake Does the Android App for Sony TVs support 24hz playback?

When people talk about "24Hz playback" it usually means a set top box/game console outputting 24Hz over HDMI to a TV, so that the TV can handle converting the frame display to its native refresh rate, which would usually reduce judder.. As such it doesn't really apply to apps running on the TV itself.

I am sure your demanding tone is going to jumpstart the Dev team!

I have reset my Sony a1, disabled several apps and services I don't need running on the TV and only installed the vudu app. This has fixed the app crashing but I am still seeing stuttering and get presented with the movie artwork whilst the vudu spinner pulses underneath. The movie rarely recovers and needs restarting.

i can only think this is an issue with the application sadly which I hope is fixed soon as films are unwatchable like this.

Jake, can you say if Vudu will update the chromecast ultra to dolby vision profile 5? Vudu doesn't work on Chromecast Ultra on sony 2017 tvs. It gives me a purple hue without HDR. No dolby vision. Thanks.

Your sarcastic tone helps no one. If enough people clamor for support then the Dev Team will have to listen, or at least the higher ups do and implement the support. I'm willing to pay for their service, but they're not providing it to me and a huge customer base.

I understand the limitations of the older LG Oleds (65EF9500) but Netflix is able to stream 4k HDR on it just fine. So not sure why not. Absence of PS4 Pro is no excuse if you can do all 4k XBOXs.

Bottom line is, this is money they're missing out on. I know Walmart is using Vudu just to cover their asses in the streaming market, just don't limp out a subpar product. I love Vudu for the HDX and always used them for the highest of streaming options, that's not the case for me anymore.

There could be an exclusive agreement between Microsoft and Vudu for 4k rights. May be why there is no response from Vudu when asked about PS4 Pro.
