No Surround Sound w/ Vudu & Roku 4

No I know a lot of people had problems with this on the Roku 3. Vudu was outputting DD+ and their receiver / soundbar didn't support DD+. The only solutions were to either replace the receiver / soundbar with a DD+ compatible unit OR switch the Roku 3 to stereo.

So after I got my Roku 3 way back this provided me an excuse to upgrade my Yamaha YSP soundbar to the latest model with DD+ support and my problem was solved.

Now on to the Roku 4 and again I'm having the same problem with Vudu. When I set it to stereo no problem. When I set it to DD+, auto, or any other surround option (all of which my soundbar supports) I get no sound in Vudu.

    Thoughts people.

I've tried the auto modes, which actually state DD+ and DTS detected on my sound system and still don't get surround. I've also tried the forced DD+ mode on the Roku 4 and nothing. According to the sound system it's not receiving ANY signal from the Roku 4 in surround. With the Roku 3 the sound system states it's getting a DD+, DTS, Stereo signal. With the Roku 4 it only states it's getting a signal from the Roku 4 when it's in stereo mode.

I've tried all the combinations of settings between the two audio settings on the Roku 4 and nothing outputs surround with the Roku 4 in VUDU.

Worked fine with the Roku 3 and Vudu app so I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

I could buy a new HDMI cable that's rated for a higher HDMI spec since the Roku 4 is rated higher then the Roku 3, but that shouldn't be an issue since I'm currently not doing anything in 4k, deep color or anything that should effect the sound between the standards.

Likewise I could try using the optical output instead of the HDMI cable for video and audio. But again I shouldn't have to. Besides the Roku settings even tell you that DD+ doesn't work perfectly over optical and there can be problems. Why?

i tried all these setttings as well. i also hooked up the tos-link(optical) cable, & all i got was a buzzing sound. i was wrong before this is happening on all apps that use DD+ or dts. the only thing that works is stereo sound. must be a roku issue. im going to give them a call and report back
