I got an invitation from a friend to share libraries but got scared when it got to the part that told me to unlink my library. Should this all be done at UVVU and not from Vudu?

You need to understand that if you merge your library with his library it is permanent, you will have basically sent all of your titles to the other party's library and they now OWN them OR the reverse. Merging is not recommended unless you own and have been the owner all along of both libraries. You can not undo a merge, so if you consider doing a merge of UVVU accounts in any shape or fashion, from any source, i.e. VUDU or UVVU, it is serious and can not be undone and one of the merging parties looses all of their titles when the merge is completed.

I am not sure what the party who advised this method meant, initially, since merging is NOT sharing, it is the total transition of one party's library into another party's library permanently.

I am not sure if this is what you were attempting, i.e. merge or if you were doing the VUDU share.

I have been leery of sharing all along, looked into it and decided that it was just to risky. All in all it appears to be a great idea with family members (that you can trust), friends and acquaintances, not so much.

I have the larger library so which way should the merge go if I want my library to be the primary account? Should I have him merge with my library or should I merge with his? Which way keeps my library (the larger one) as primary? Also, for future purchases, I want to make sure I can still purchase content and it will go into the primary library.

If you merge, which I would not advise, and you merge your library with his, you will lose your library, totally. It becomes his library.

Should he decide to merge his with yours, then his library becomes your library. They cannot be split apart, ever. Either way this a lose lose situation for one of you, one of you will lose your library going forward.

This is not reversible, in any way shape form or fashion. I highly recommend that you do not merge your larger library to another party's library if you want to keep your library intact and in your ownership.

Just my cautious advice in the matter.

Re: Users you have added to Share My Movies are PERMANENT - They cannot be removed

Merged libraries become one Library and cannot be unmerged, though it's not totally true that one becomes the sole owner: it all depends on who is a full user. For the person who started this thread, to simply add a uv user back, I would merge the libraries and make sure all other users are standard users, since when you merge libraries, the owner of the other Library is still a full user. And any full user can turn another full user into a standard user taking ownership of the UV account.

I do not advise to merge libraires to add movies to your account with another user who has a good number of movies as well, as stated above this cannot be undone. You can only be sure that you will keep your Library if you are the only full user, which is not fair to one of the parties involved unless it is decided by both parties that one user will be the owner of the account.

Also if you are invited to share an account through Vudu, this doesn't merge your current uv library, when you unlink your vudu and uv accounts and then accept the invitation, your uv account will still be there and unattached to a vudu account and your vudu account will then be attached to his uv account. Although this will not port past uv movies into the new shared uv account.

THANK YOU!!!! You said it way better than I did. Since I have a huge VUDU/UVVU library/locker, the thought of merging with another person is absolutely out of the question, in the realm of lunacy.

But, there have been cases reported where folks have done this, one person is then left holding an empty bag in the end, the empty bag being that they no longer have access or ownership to large libraries on UVVU that they initially purchased and owned. This is due to one or the other party having full user rights and obliterating/removing the other party from the UVVU account permanently after the merger and retaining the full library in their own name/ownership.

Correct me if I am wrong, but with full user rights there are a bundle of actions that can be taken within the UVVU ecosystem, one of which can be to remove shared users/libraries.

Re: Users you have added to Share My Movies are PERMANENT - They cannot be removed

Yes, a full user has complete control of the UV account, which is why I would never allow anyone else full user rights on my UV account, nor would I ever merge another UV account to add titles to my UV account. Though I have shared my account with family as standard users. A standard user only has the right to link and unlink, change their own information and add movies to the UV account.

Also, you'll never lose access to any movies you own by code or purchase in your Vudu account through that Vudu account, but you won't be able to ever share them with anyone else if you lose access to your UV account and any UV movies added not through that Vudu account will be lost if you are no longer linked to your UV account.

Thanks for the responses and it all seems very complicated? I guess as long as I'm a full user then I should be ok? I'm still thinking about it and haven't done anything yet or ever.
