    Upgrade from HDX to UHD

    Vudu,

I have a large collection of HDX movies. Now that UHD is available I would like to upgrade all my HDX movies to UHD once they are available in that format, but I am not willing to pay the full UHD price of ~$29.99 because I already paid $19.99 for the HDX version.

If, however, you allowed me to upgrade my HDX movie to UHD by paying the difference ($19.99 - $29.99 = $10.00) or a smaller upgrade fee I would be willing to upgrade my entire collection.

That is not very helpful for movies people bought directly from Vudu or other UV resellers.

You're right, I'm talking about HDX (or lower) movies bought directly from Vudu or other UV resellers. This really doesn't have anything to do with D2D.

Does D2D show an upgrade to UHD if you have them enabled on your account?

Bump. This is a very big question of mine and many of my friends as well. I have amassed a very large HDX collection which was not easy (or cheap ). It would be really nice if Vudu could leverage their digital distribution model to provide convenience and cost savings for the consumer vs. physical distribution (e.g. Blu-ray -> UHD Blu-ray) upgrade programs aren't possible. Please, please, please provide some kind of HDX -> UHD upgrade program. That would be so awesome and I think would give a lot of people incentive to go with Vudu for the majority of their 4K/UHD content viewing.

I imagine this is partly up to the studios but hopefully Vudu can talk them into this. I will not pay full price to upgrade from SD to HDX or HDX to UHD. The studios (and Vudu) are missing out on a lot of potential cash from me!

                      I agree with this point.

I'm not going to repurchase a UHD movie for 30.00 when I own the HDX version. The best way to handle this would be to support an upgrade plan or provide it at a reduced cost for current owners. Especially when we have been the ones to support Vudu.

Would be handy for me to buy UHD in place of HDX for movies I know I'll want to upgrade.

It seems to make too much sense to not be put into effect at some point but it probably depends not just on vudu but also on the content owners.

I want this just as much as everyone else, but the studios will always have the same valid excuse. 4k Blu-ray is coming out now. We wouldn't be able to walk into a brick and mortar shop and exchange our old copy of a movie on Blu-ray, for a $5 upgrade to a 4k disc. Despite it being the same film, it is a new product. That applies to the digital realm as well unfortunately. Its why I believe studios are reluctant to join D2D programs. They know that they are losing out on profits, and there is no way of enforcing that the disc you used is actually your own. We are heading into some very tricky territory now that things have shifted to digital. The definition of ownership has now been extended more towards long term borrowing. I've gone off on a tangent though. The short of it is that 4k is a new product, so the only way to profit from it is to charge for it as a new product. Its very unfortunate.

I mentioned it before. Take $50, heck even $100 a month from me and let me watch and movie / tv show in any quality / format, as much as I want.Seriously studios would get their money worth much easier.

They get constant revenue stream. I don't the hassles or having to find all in and outs for easiest and cheapest own what I want.

Just let me have access to everything for one large fee.

IE Netflix on double dose of steroids.
