    Roku 4: Remote Stops Working

Wife updated roku in bedroom to get better performance from SlingTV app. It is dog slow on Roku XS.

New Roku 4 just connected. Everytime Vudu goes to screen saver, the Roku remote stops working.

The Roku 4 is otherwise fine. You can control it with an iPhone app.

Only way to get the remote working again is either a soft boot from the Roku Power menu or a cold boot.

I found a Roku forum mention this is a known issue with the Vudu app. Anyone else having this problem? This is happening to me in the Vudu app, but also other apps like Netflix.

If it happens with other apps, then logic would dictate that it's a Roku problem, not a vudu problem. You should probably contact Roku customer service.

Re: Roku 4: Remote Stops Working

Called in Friday night, but their queue was backed up & I submitted a web form instead which has a few day turn round.

Just wondering if others have had the same problem.

Roku 3 is still the best Roku streaming device in my opinion. I was going to get two Roku 4 devices but I have read where a few people have complained about a fan that makes a lot of noise and the they are easy to overheat.

I hear no fans, but heat I felt was something I needed to be proactive about. I have it on a four point stand to keep the underside with air flow.

It has worked well and the UHD options are a welcome addition. Still no word back from Roku support. Guess I am going to have to call in.

Re: Roku 4: Remote Stops Working

Finally got through to Roku TechSupport. Seems the remote is designed to go to sleep. Mine was not waking back up.

Roku Tech support and me tried new batteries in the remote. Also, we did several hard reboots and pairings. Those did not work either.

There is a black button in the battery compartment that when pressed once quickly, should wake up the remote. If you press it more then 1 second, it goes into a pairing mode and the green LED starts to blink.

With my remote, pressing it less then one second had no effect from making it wake from sleep. Nor did pressing it more then 1 second and sending it into pairing mode.

In my case, the Roku and remote needed to be replaced. I will update this thread if I have any problems with the replacement unit.

Perhaps this thread will be of help to someone in the future. It seems obvious now, but was driving me nuts trying to figure out.

...new Roku 4 arrived today. Remote works fine. Amazon exchange was painless.

Had the same problem with original Roku 4. So Roku service exchanged it. Seemed to be working, then they updated the firmware this week, now it's a problem again.
