    UHD streaming speed

I have 15 meg service and if I run a speed test it shows 13-15 most of the time. However when I do the vudu speedtest on the Roku 4, it starts at about 13, then drops to 5-6. I bought a new, better router and hard wired everything, still the same. I know if I call our internet provider they are just going to run a speed test and claim all is good on their end....any ideas? wanting to stream UHD.

I don't want to sound like a douche, but I think the best bet is to buy faster internet. I had Vudu HDX streaming problems when I had a 40 mbps speed from Century Link. If I run wireless to my LG TV, 40 Meg service would often buffer. I now have 100 MBPS internet, with the same router (netgear Nighthawk) and wirelessly, my son's roku2 drops out on occassion and has to buffer. The only place I don't see any issue is vudu on my xbox one and Sony 850C tv. Both of them stream really well. The Tv is wireless but is just on the other side of the wall from the router. The xbox one is wired to the router.

On a side note, my best streaming experience by far was with a ps3. I ran my ps3 wirelessly on 30 mbps internet and it never had hiccups. I think the device is a huge part, and I am not totally confident in Roku yet, but my only experience is with a roku2.

I'd have to agree with pizzadave80. I have TWC 15 Mbps and stream 1080p without issue but UHD is a different animal and I would not feel comfortable with my present speed even though the VUDU speed test says I am getting 16 Mbps on my wireless computer connection. My Roku is hardwired.

The speed test page says that 11 Mbps is the minimum for 4K/UHD but with overhead and possible service congestion having 15 Mbps as your base speed is probably not getting the job done. I would certainly get your ISP involved to make sure there is not a service connection problem.

        Thanks for the replies....

Right now I'm paying $67 for 15 megs and would gladly pay triple the price for triple the megs (as ridiculous as that would be) but they don't offer it
So what I'm trying to establish is if I have any case at all with my provider since when running Vudu's (load test I guess?) I can't seem to maintain more than about 1/3 of the 15 megs I'm paying for, Thanks.

I'd be curious what speeds you would see if you tested it with the SpeedTest app. I can't remember if it's on Roku but I know Apple TV has one. Maybe take a pic of it with your phone and bring it in to your provider?

The Roku has a private speed test channel.

While VUDU has a browser speed test.

              2 more bandwidth tests.

Netflix.... search for 'test patterns' it will have season and episode numbers. Use S1E1, It will actually show the resolution that you can achieve. Netflix requires 25meg for 4k viewing.

Ultraflix also does a bandwidth test. You'll have to sign up for that one, but it does not require a payment method.

Bottom line is that 13-15 meg is borderline for 4K/UHD viewing.
