    Upgrading movies to UHD

Has VUDU ever thought about offering to upgrade movies purchased in HDX to UHD when they become available for a fee? Instead of having to purchase a new copy of the movie?

Definitely an idea that has come up before - and a good one. Digital isn't like physical - we shouldn't have to "re-buy" a movie like we would a disc. We're just shifting from one quality license to another.

Does any streaming service offer this? I don't think this kind of thing is necessarily Vudu's call.

For HD movies purchased directly on iTunes, they are automatically upgraded to UHD, for free, when UHD is available. The only exception is Disney-owned movies because Disney is greedy and won't allow their movies to be upgraded for free. In fact, you can't even buy a Disney UHD movie on iTunes. Apple apparently worked out a deal with the other studios, but no other streaming service has done that. Vudu, at least, allows re-purchasing a movie in UHD at full price that you already own. Not great, but at least you have the option. The other services don't even allow that.

Microsoft doesn't really allow it, but there's way to get the UHD if you already own the title. Amazon allows you to re-buy UHD from HD since their UHD titles are a separate listing altogether.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Amazon. I have purchased a few UHD titles through them, but there doesn't seem to be very many catalog movies available in UHD, relative to other services. I'd be interested in knowing what the "work-around" is on Microsoft.

The work around for UHD on Microsoft - if your movie ported to Micro as HD and you can't purchase the UHD, just log out of your Micro account, click purchase on the UHD, it will ask you to log in, log in and the next page should confirm your UHD purchase and it should port back to MA as UHD. This worked for me on both Jump Street UHDs.

If they have fixed it since then, IDK, but I doubt they have.

Google Play has also upgraded some HD movies to UHD for free, if you purchased the HD title from them.

Yes, that's right, I don't use Google Play much so I forgot about that.
