Can we decline these free UHD upgrades? Many of us don't plan on using Vudu anymore, outside of Movies Anywhere compatible content on sale. I've purchased some UHD content at Vudu I already owned in HD even recently, just so it would appear in 4K at iTunes, etc. By limiting our ability to buy upgrades that port, you are going to see even less spending from users that use your service to buy content with 4K MA rights. Basically you're telling us to wait until it is released in 4K to buy so we can have it on Movies Anywhere in 4K, in case Vudu really is sold by Wal-Mart as reports indicate.

This is fine as long as the purchase uhd button remains so portable movies anywhere uhd upgrades can be purchased.

In other words hope these upgrades just playback as a free bonus in uhd but otherwise all remains as is since is is not considered a full purchase entitlement.

Or just allow them to port. Jeez, why must Vudu make even giving something away so complicated?

I assume this is a studio mandate that they shouldn't go to Movies Anywhere, so that people have to buy the 4K. The problem is that most other providers don't let you upgrade via purchase anyway so I can't buy it. The studios are making it worse by preventing reissuing 4K MA licenses.

So if I bought one of these Warner titles in HD at Vudu and it upgrades to 4K, that's nice. But if I want a license at MA I can't get it. If I go to iTunes it shows that I own it in HD and can't repurchase. If I go to Google it shows I own it and can't repurchase. Same for FandangoNow and Microsoft. There may be some workarounds but they are unofficial. Vudu was my go-to when I wanted to upgrade a title and now I won't be able to do that.

This is disappointing if it will take away the ability to purchase a 4k upgrade that ports to MA. I buy a lot of my movies on Vudu because they are the only one who allows purchasing upgrades. However i prefer to use iTunes to watch, and family members use the MA app Since it allows multiple user profiles. It would be annoying if there was no way for me to buy a 4k upgrade and have it port to MA.

I?d also second the motion of having the option to decline the upgrades. It?s worse if they go to MA as HD; then I can?t get those titles when iTunes has them for dirt cheap in a few months down the road. I?ve got to tell you, this is another nail in the ⚰️ Vudu. Your game to lose anyways, we adapt but don?t forget.

I?m disconnecting y?all from MA pronto.

Disconncting from MA will do nothing. The only fixes for this is for vudu to continue to allow purchase of uhd or redeem uhd codes after upgrade or even better allow the uhd upgrades to be full entitlement and port out to ma.

By the way Team Vudu I'm sure you are like 'What is up with these folks? We are giving them free upgrades as they have been asking for and all they are doing is complaining about it?!?!?!?' And I would understand your frustration.

Its not that we don't enjoy free upgrades. EVERYONE in general loves free upgrades. It's just that, as film collectors, we can be particular and enjoy the freedom Vudu has provided us. Another non-related issue is folks have been asking for years for a way to debundle the bundle titles and sort their collections as they wish (with folders etc) so that all the Fast and Furious Films, James Bond films, and Nolan Batman film series can appear together (among many others).

With a physical disc collection people would just sort their films EXACTLY as they wish (and everyone is different). With 4k upgrades with physical discs , heck they just buy the 4k disc.

But digital is a different world. We can't sort as we want our films to exactly be. And in many cases we cannot simply just buy a 4k digital upgrade via other digital retailers.

Vudu is a rare retailer we LOVE that allows UHD upgrades. All we want as far as the UHD free upgrades is the ability for for us to continue to upgrade our SD or HD copies to UHD via Purchase (always) or redeem our UHD codes and have the title upgrade and port to MA . Is it being particular? Perhaps. But those are your core consumers.

So hopefully this can all be sorted out to make everyone (or mostly everyone) happy by either keeping the UHD purchase button for upgrades or just porting out all upgrades to MA.

And then after that is done it would be great to see other studios jump on board for free upgrades!!!

Thank you Vudu and Warner Brothers for bringing this new feature we have been begging for. Just hope you can make some tweaks and all will be great!!!!

This whole ridiculous thing of automatic upgrades not porting to MA is maddening!! The studios need to WAKE UP and allow it for all us die-hard movie collectors! What does it hurt? I don't get it. I suppose it's some "exclusive" agreement with Vudu to differentiate them from other retailers (besides Apple that already does it). So, in that case, Vudu may be at fault in this as well. Ugh. Ridiculous!

Hello folks. Just some clarification. Not porting to MA is a license restriction on Vudu UHD upgrades. Much like when iTunes upgraded their customers to UHD, those UHD copies didn't port to MA. Unfortunately, there isn't much we can do on that front.

Thanks for the clarification. Just a shame that the studios are doing that.

Im also concerned with this roll out will prevent others from purchasing upgrade that will port to MA. So we are stuck HD titles in MA. Not good.

Will we still have the option to purchase UHD for a movie that has been upgraded? Can this be made possible?
