    Predator HDX ?

I purchased predator on vudu a few years and never really watched it. I noticed predator was released in 4k recently and uses a new master. Does that mean my hdx copy was upgraded to the new master, or do I have to purchase the uhd copy.

Don't know "which" Predator you're refering to but you paid for HDX, you're highly unlikely to get UHD for free.

Just because they add a version in UHD does not necessarily mean the HDX copy will be upgraded. I have seen it both ways. Sometimes they will upgrade both at the same time, sometimes not unfortunately.

I purchased the Predator (1987) 4K UHD and omg it looked and sounded horrible. Pretty sure this is from the old well-thrashed BluRay release. The 4K release is supposed to look amazing and have a DTS-HD 5.1 soundtrack. This looked 1080P with a DD+ soundtrack. Can anyone else confirm?

Just checked. The movie looks great in 4K HDR. Tons of grain like the 4K release.

You can only expect so much “quality” improvement on 4K releases of old film movies. The grain is going to be there and dark shots can look bad. But this is going to be expected. There are plenty of old movies converted to 4K where some shots depending on lighting look bad while others look great. No different than in the theater 40 years ago.

Roger that thanks. Have not seen the 4K BluRay release, just that it received good reviews. Not super familiar with prior disc release history either only reviews. My interpretation is it's like they hit play + record in telecine with no oversight with big discrepancies from shot to shot. Audio in DD+ was abysmal. Plenty of other 35mm films from same era via Vudu look and sound way better. Looks like I'll be picking up the UBRD....cannot imagine it looking/sounding as bad, we'll see!
