Offline viewing of MY movies ?

How do I watch MY purchased movies offline?

I have found the thread that shows how to download all my movies to an external drive... but this only allows me to watch them via the laptop that I used to download them thru. I cant seem to open any of the files with any other movie viewer.

I want to be able to access my external drive via Ipad, android device, another computer, etc and watch the movies. but cant figure out how this can be done?

You cannot use a 3rd party app or viewer with the downloaded movies on Vudu. You are stuck with the Vudu app.

I can download the VUDU apps to the kids IPADs, but when I access the external drive, there is no way for VUDU to see the downloaded movies.

The only way the app recognizes the downloaded movies on the external drive is when I am using original laptop that I used to download them

You can't hot-swap movies using an external storage device. You can only view the content on the device it was originally downloaded. This will usually break the movies and become unreadable. You'll have to download all of your content again.

Correct, that's they way it is. For Disney DMA movies, you can use the native iPad format and transfer from your computer.

The kids have IPADs, and very long car ride coming up... I need to be able to download MY movies to an external storage, so I can access them offline, and they can each pick and watch whatever I have saved to the drive. I cant get buy with having only a couple of movies on each kids Ipad.

Sounds like I need to go back to buying actual DVDs/ bluray, and not this virtual buy a movie but not really own it atmosphere we all seem to be getting sucked into.

Yeah, there's a bit of a learning curve with this digital stuff. What you really own is a license to view the content, not the content itself like a physical disc.

Or just download a bunch of movies onto each iPad. You should be able to fit at least 2-3 movies per gigabyte. With different movies on each iPad, you should be able to fit at least a dozen or two even if you have 16GB models with a ton of apps.

The key is to queue up the downloads, plug in the iPad, and then let them download overnight. Because it's not a fast process.

I purchased a used 500GB PS3 for just this purpose. The vudu app on PS3 allows you to download movies to the hard drive. The only catch is that the vudu app needs internet access in order to confirm licensing at the start of the movie. You can tether it to your smart phone for that small amount of data.

Only other thing to be aware of is the movies download to the hard drive in the highest quality you own. So, if you own HDX and try playing SD it will stream the SD version over your phone rather than from your hard drive.

Many of us buy the bluray combo packs and then add the Digital HD / UV to Vudu. It's often cheaper to my the physical disc PLUS digital content compared to buying the digital content only from Vudu.

If you have hotspot on your phone or wifi in your car they can live stream at the same time as two separate accounts.

A possible but unlikely solution is a portable drive that connects to iPads via wifi. Both iPads could access the drive as a network share. However might lock it to the device that did the initial download. Likewise I think Vudu only works of of internal storage.
