If they add a movie is it there for ever?

Once Vudu adds a movie will it always be there or will they remove them for other titles?

It probably wouldn't get removed due to space issues, but the studio may only make it available for a limited time.

Movies may come and go out of the database. There are certain licensing restrictions to some movies. I don't pretend to know all the details, but there are blackout windows on some movies where the movie will be available, then it won't be and then it will come back at some point.

I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear but the licenses Vudu receives drives it. For older movies, what is in the database should pretty much stay there. For newer movies, there are times when there are restrictions.

For content you own, it won't obviously go away.

Theoretically, there's no limit to the number of movies the service can provide. It all has to do with the licenses available for the content.

      I hope this helps.

Interesting. I was kind of assuming that if I could rent a movie once, I would always be able to rent it. That adds a small wrinkle to the rent vs. buy decision.

Well, I'm not sure of all the details or what I can say about it (I don't know much), but there's times when a studio may black out content. For example if it premiers on certain TV channels, etc. I won't say more because I'm ignorant beyond this and I don't know what I can and can't say.

It seems like I've heard elsewhere that when the studios decide to put content out on premium movie channels (we'll just leave it at that) then they change some of the distribution channels for physical (or in our case digital) media for a temporary period of time.

I certainly don't understand all the components of this practice but I could speculate on the main driver. $$$$$

              Mebby,

I think you have it correct. FWIU, some of the studios have ownership interest in the premium channels and they don't want to lose that revenue stream...

I was just curious about how big Vudu's library would become over time. Its nice to say you have 5000 movies but the bigger the library becomes the better.

Oh, no question. I know they are trying to get it to 10,000 movies as fast as they can. How long that will be is anyone's guess. I once guessed they'd have that number by Christmas this year. I don't think I'm going to be correct in that guess!
