    Vudu > FandangoNow - Forum

Here's hoping the forum survives the buyout.

    #2
yes. We shall see. From what I have seen this forum has been an excellent tool for receiving information they never would have via other means. And that information can be used to improve their service. If companies shut down the voice of their customers they often end up like .... well, Fandangonow.

Yes, I would be really bummed if this forum was ever taken away. I have looked at it almost every day for the past 7 years!

Count me in too. Many people complain about Vudu's support, but if you've ever had to deal with FandangoNow's bumblers you would appreciate this forum & team. Head & shoulders above F.N.

I think there are many, many fronts where Vudu customers are hoping Fandango protects the Vudu customer base. Vudu has millions of customers. It would be an obvious bad business decision to alienate millions of established customers who could easily migrate over to Google, Amazon, or Apple to collect digital movies.

Which is precisely why I expect Fandango to do precisely that... alienate us by monkeying with what we love about Vudu. Parkinson's Law of Triviality. Fandango will likely bikeshed Vudu, and will do so by basically gutting it, instead of leaving the service as-is, and working toward improvements the way Wal-Mart did. Wal-Mart's acquisition of Vudu was great. I am apprehensive about Fandango. I hope they prove me wrong.

Just my prediction... and my opinion... My opinions are free, and worth every penny .

One more thing. What gives me hope about Fandango is that they are actually in the industry, unlike Wal-Mart, which is only a retailer with no actual interest in the Industry. Many of the movies we've lamented not being on Vudu may appear if Fandango does this right. I think Wal-Mart would completely back out of all movie distribution, including physical media, if they thought they could without ripping a hole in the space-time continuum.

My biggest fear is that Fandango will turn Vudu into a subscription service, where you have to pay a monthly fee to access the movies you've purchased. I don't think this will happen, but it could. They will lose most of their established customer base if they do. They are going to have to do the age-old balancing act that coorporations have done for years. Will they allow greed to lead them into a non-viable market strategy?

No, the main subject of this thread has nothing to do with any streaming issues you are experiencing. If you want access to your movies on Fandango, be sure you have both your Vudu accounts and Fandango accounts linked with Movies Anywhere. Even then, only Movies Anywhere titles will cross-pollinate into Fandango. None of your television purchases will cross over into Fandango. Movies Anywhere is only about movies, not television.

I have a Samsung TV, and it gives me this same streaming hangup from time to time. Power cycling the router and the TV usually fixes it. By power cycling, I mean completely unplugging it from the wall. Technically, modern TV's never do fully power down. If the problem persists beyond your tolerance, I would suggest a Chromecast (or a Chromecast Ultra if you have a 4K TV). I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER have issues with my Chromecasts. They are more dependable than my TV's onboard apps any day of the week. And, to be honest, the picture quality seems a little better through the Chromecast as well, especially on my Samsung. Phone navigation is easier than remote control navigation as well, in my opinion.

What a load of FUD. That isn't going to happen. How would that even work when people can watch many of their movies for free at Movies Anywhere? Why would one of the smallest competitors decide to become less competitive by charging a fee?

When you see greed it's due to a lack of competition. Once you can only buy a product or service from a few entities then they can control pricing and features. There's still competition in this space for now.

Fandango Now is worse than Vudu because once you download a movie, you only have 2 days to watch it. On Vudu, downloaded movies are available for 30 days before you click play. I didn't know this when I rented the The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming. Earlier today, I was surprised because I found out that I only had 10 minutes to watch this movie. The app also secretly deleted the download.

When you say download are you talking about a rental? You absolutely have 30 days to start a rental on FandangoNow...
