    Family Play

I just got an e-mail that Family Play was going to no longer be supported and I think that's a step in the wrong direction. I think that was a great and unique feature to cut out some violence and profanity from films and make my library more accessible to my children. I implore you to reconsider this decision as Vudu should be looking to add more great features like this, not get rid of them.

Just got the email too, disappointing.

    Update on Vudu Family Play

    Hi Vudu customers,

Thank you for trying out our Family Play feature. Starting on July 20, 2020, Family Play will no longer be a supported option on our platform.

As a destination for your family’s video entertainment needs, we continue to provide a range of features that give you peace of mind to find the right content for each member of your household.

Vudu will still offer features such as Common Sense Media reviews (guidance and reviews from a parent’s point of view), Kids Mode (ability to set age limits on content your kids can browse and watch), and Parental Controls (managing purchase options protected by a PIN). All these features will continue to be supported on Vudu so you can enjoy your classic favorites and discover new ones worry-free.

At Vudu, we are committed to being your family’s streaming entertainment destination.

Thank you for continuing to use Vudu.

    Sincerely,
    Vudu team

Not something I use, but I appreciate that some do. I think part of the problem is that it wasn't ever that accurate,

Can you post up the email for the rest of us. I haven't seen anything myself.

I have spent a considerably more money on rentals and purchases with Vudu because of this feature - it has allowed my kids to see movies that would have otherwise been off limits (Hobbs and Shaw, for instance). My spending now at Vudu will basically go to $0 as I get this solution elsewhere. I imagine there are more out there like this - Vudu you just killed a good revenue source. Did you look at your analytics before you made this decision?

This is very unfortunate! There is also a thread on Reddit with people unhappy about it:

A huge disappointment to receive that email that vudu will no longer support Family Play. I can honestly say, we use it DAILY. It's an incredible service that gives peace of mind to parents who are wary about certain aspects of a movie. Growing up we could watch a movie on Cable TV knowing it was safe due to content being edited, these days that concept is out the window and no more. So we greatly used Family Play. Plus it opens up a door to so many wonderful films because of that service. Please, please, please reconsider the deletion and reinstate it for the long haul. You're doing a disservice to the young ears&eyes by removing it.

Wow, this is completely a move in the wrong direction and very disappointing. I seriously hope that you reconsider this move. I have purchased numerous movies because they have Family Play on Vudu and I have passed on several movies that do not have it. I have also directed several families to Vudu exclusively because of this option. I am already researching substitutes and will likely pay monthly for vidangel or clearplay if Vudu drops the option. Since other streaming services can be filtered by these providers, and Vudu does not seem to allow this, I will likely support those streaming services with more of my future purchases.

This is Terrible VUDU! My kids love the marvel movies. Why? I know exactly why. It's because POSs want to keep polluting our children with innuendos, sex(or soft porn), and language. And Hollywood keeps doing it. Watch a Marvel movie. Its geared towards kids but they have to throw in garbage in every single one cause it's "funny"? Those movies and countless others would be great without the trash but that Hollwood for you. VUDU and whomever else....Very disgusted right now. All the money I've spent. No More.

Family Play is the whole reason that I started using Vudu. It sounds like I now have to look for another service. I wonder if this has anything to do with being bought by Fandango?

Wow I had no idea. I knew some families used this heavily. I'm assuming this was a Fandango decisions since it appears they officially own Vudu now (unconfirmed).

MAYBE something will come along to fill the void when the merger is fully complete ???

Unbelievable! Just read the email and I don't understand why they would get rid of such a great feature?! Is it because they were purchased by FandangoNOW? I was so excited when VUDU introduced that feature. I'm not a happy customer right now!

I'm not usually very active in forums and just joined the VUDU forum specifically to reply to this topic. I have been a VUDU customer since it first came out and was so excited when they decided to add the family play feature. I am subscriber to clearplay and vidangel, but it was so nice just to be able to enable the family play feature on VUDU and not have to worry about anything extra. I was a little worried when I heard that fandango was purchasing VUDU and my fears were confirmed when I received the email about this feature being eliminated. I hope the more people will chime in on this and make them reconsider. I have told many of my family and friends about this feature because most of them didn't even realized it was available.

I only starting using VUDU because of FamilyPlay. I've purchased a number of movies on VUDU that I would not have purchased otherwise, strictly because of FamilyPlay. VUDU is useless to me now.

Very disappointed. Only reason I choose VUDU over other platforms is because of family play. My decision to purchase movies is 99% due to this feature. I can guarantee that this will be a large financial loss on your part as many like me will stop buying, redeeming, and watching our digital movies on VUDU. Too bad VUDU and FandangoNow LIED by saying nothing would change. I never used FandangoNow and it looks like I won't be using VUDU anymore either.
