Vudu app in TCL smart TV only offers SD playback

Just purchased a current 40 inch smart tcl TV from best buy and oddly the vudu app only is offering SD playback on a 1080p TV.

Going into each movie page it only offers a Play SD button

Has anyone else seen this? Have not seen any other option or setting to switch to HD.

Is this a known issue? It is an android tv platform. On the same TV I can cast vudu no problem in HD. Other builtin apps play and cast in HD.

    Any ideas or fix?

My internet was not working well when installing the app which has since been fixed. Is there a calibration upon install that checks internet and locks to SD if poor connection?

Goto VUDU App Settings>Playback Quality and see what it is set to. I'm guessing it is set to SD for "default starting video quality". If so it is an easy fix.

Unfortunately there is only a setting there for Binge watch for TV. Can't find any playback quality settings.

Yeah the Android TV version doesn't have those options on the TCL in the version I have.

For anyone following this here is an update: I found out via Vudu tech support that this particular TCL TV model has not been 'approved' by Vudu for their app, hence why it is stuck on SD only resolution.

I believe Vudu is in process reaching out to TCL to make the approval happen, so hopefully in the not too far future the Vudu app from the TV app store will support HDX.

Can you please PM me your email address associated with your Vudu account so I can look at TV attached to your account?

There is reason I recommend people NEVER use Smart TV apps and instead buy a Chromecast Ultra, NvIdia Shield, or Apple 4K TV box

Smart TV will always let you down

This TCL is the first Smart TV or box that I have ever seen with this issue. I don't recall ever having an issue with any of the smart tv / box apps i've used so my experience I guess has been far different than yours.

By the way, this TV comes with a built in Chromecast which works fine with Vudu in HD. Its just the built in app that has the issue.

                              Hi, John.
Can you offer any suggestion on how to expedite an approval intervention for the/my Konka Android TV (43" 4K)?
