VUDU 4k HDR on new Google Chromecast Ultra w/ Google TV

This is a little off-topic, but I can't shake the feeling that it might be related. I just purchased the new Blade Runner 2043 movie in UHD. After purchase, a message came up saying this movie can only be streamed in SD in Chrome, and in HDX in Safari or Edge.

I rarely, if ever, watch movies in a browser, but I wonder if the issue is related to the issues with the new Chromecast.

It almost sounds to me like Google isn't playing nice with one or more of the streaming companies, or maybe vice-versa.

With Google holding so much at stake with the idea that their software and their Chromecast is essential equipment for most streamers, it is practically business suicide for a streaming service to alienate them.

And then there's this Amazon lawsuit to consider, which will set a precedent that will spill over into the TOS of other streaming services.

It's like watching groups of children on a playground argue over who gets to ride the merry-go-round next.

It's all very disheartening to see so many of these companies potentially working very hard to displease the customer, it seems. Whatever happened to good business practices that were meant to work in the favor of the customer?

Anyway... Off-topic, but found it interesting and possibly related.

An absolute deal-breaker for me, personally, but, it's also the first time I think I've genuinely realized just how little the world at large seems to care about maintaining their own personal movie collections anymore, and that makes me a bit sad.
I think reviewers are not making a big deal about it because its really just a software issue. The device itself is totally capable, the software just hasnt caught up yet. Even Disney+ doesnt have Dolby Vision or / Atmos enabled yet.

Or the reviewers just dont know ! ha!

I can't say exactly when we will be publishing an app update for this, but I have heard we have Atmos and HDR10 working internally with the latest firmware updates, so it's coming. Dolby Vision still has issues. I don't generally want to point fingers but it's surprising how many bugs this device had on launch for something that is "Android TV". We absolutely want to support all of its capabilities as soon as we feel the customer experience is good.

It sure is buggy. I can't play any movies cast via voice to it. It throws a code 7 Google play movie error every time. No such issues with our other Chromecast. Even after full reset same issue.

            Working with them on it.

Android TV in and of itself is a mature platform. The "Google TV" portion is a separate layer slapped on top. That does complicate things. Maybe it was rush released for the holiday season and isn't quite ready for primetime?

Either way, thanks for the update, Jake!

FYI that if you own any Movies Anywhere titles in 4K they are playing properly in the MA app.

Ya I don't like the finger pointing, especially when everyone else that offers UHD on android TV has got it working, except for you guys and coincidentally fandango (which I guess is also you guys now right?)

Netflix, Amazon, disney+, Movies Anywhere, youtube/google movies, ....

It would t be such a big deal if my ultraviolet movies weren't locked inside Vudu and FandangoNow, but since they are....I desperately need this working.

I have used roku, xbox, shield, fire sticks, etc....and though you say it's "buggy", to me it's far and above the best device....every device seems to have it's bugs...I don't see any more or less with the new Chromecast. Works pretty smoothly for me in general.

Is integration coming then in to the "services" side of the UI outside the app?

To clarify when at the main screen on the device and a movie is shown a list of options is presented and currently Vudu is not part of that list.

I believe that vudu can be a part of that list but their links to the vudu feeds are broken so no titles will appear.

Vudu this is broken in all Android tv versions I believe. Can you fix vudu? Is this known Jake?

Playing my movies in 4k plus hdr (both hdr10 and dolby vision) are huge issues. My main movie library is through vudu. This really needs resolved.

And also this issue mentioned in the quote is a problem. Mine doesn't even show vudu for movies I know I own in the ways to watch thing. Would be nice if vudu could be in that and also be included in recommended.
