It's just "safer" in general to redeem on a provider so I always recommend to pick your favorite provider and redeem there. First, always checking the 4K sheet though to make sure it does redeem 4K there. Movies Anywhere should be the last place you redeem if there is no other option.

I disagree, and I'll tell you why.

Reason #1: I redeemed a code for The Matrix Trilogy 4K on Vudu. Vudu gave me HDX (apparently the individual movies were available in 4K, but Vudu only had the bundle in HDX), which then passed HD on to all other MA providers, even though the code was for 4K. Found out later from Warner Bros and Movies Anywhere that if I had redeemed the code on Movies Anywhere, I would have received 4K across all MA providers. Thankfully, Warner was generous enough to provide a new code, which I redeemed on MA, and low and behold I suddenly had the trilogy in 4K on iTunes, FandangoNow, Google Play Movies, and... Vudu.

Reason #2: When Sony released The Mask of Zorro on UHD, Vudu only had the movie available in HDX. If I had redeemed the code on Vudu, I would have received the movie in HD across all MA providers, including Vudu, and the movie would have never upgraded to 4K/UHD on any MA provider. Movies Anywhere did have the movie in UHD, which is where I redeemed my code, and was able to then watch it in UHD and Dolby Atmos on the Apple TV app on my Roku Ultra.

That is why I always redeem on Movies Anywhere. They have also been more willing to go to bat for me, as a customer, whenever there is a redemption issue, unlike Vudu, who's support is currently over-burdened with library merger issues.

We have alerted them several times. They will need to figure out the issue since it does reside on their end. Not much we can do at this point unfortunately.

VUDU apparently went dark on this one. It’s like it doesn’t exist. Maybe they think we’ll stop asking and pretend everything works just fine. Still can’t choose VUDU from the Disney redeem. VUDU redeem of the UHD code still redeems HD. Nothing has changed.

Of course folks know this. The best solution is for Vudu to fix on their end so many folks buying discs don't get super frustrated unknowingly redeeming their codes at Vudu by getting an HD version instead of the proper 4k copy.

If you have already redeemed on Vudu, you are basically stuck with getting Vudu to fix it for you, or you will have to contact Disney Support at www.disneystudioshelp.com/contact-dch.html and explain the situation. Be ready to provide a copy of the code insert and proof of purchase.

Redeem on Movies Anywhere, of which Vudu is a retail partner. If MA or Disney has it mapped incorrectly (to HD rather than UHD), MA can usually pitch in and assist or at least help you get in touch with someone who can help you. MA usually knows where the breakdown is. For example, my UHD code for Willy Wonka came up in MA as a UHD version, but the movie ID it was mapped to by the studio, Warner, was for the older HD version, and MA was able to provide the necessary contact information to Warner to get it corrected by issuing me a new code.
