New VUDU app 4.1.6.27806, extracted from Mi Box Android TV, with "Material Design" UI

This new interface is slick as snot, the best I've seen yet (and I've seen them all.)

I'm very impressed with it with the overall design aesthetic, if not the overall functionality (at least so far.)

This particular app comes preinstalled on the new Mi Box, just now starting to be sold at Walmart for $70. And yes, reports say it's UHD compatible. One missing interface element is the Watchlist, not sure why they didn't include it.

The APK was extracted and I then installed it on my 65" Sony Bravia X750D, running Android TV 6.0.1. The good news is, I was able to launch it and log in. The bad news is, it wouldn't play back any purchased content. I got an error with every attempt.

My supreme hope is that VUDU "officially" rolls it out to all Android TV's and Android TV devices soon.

It's pretty slick, but it looks like it's missing some features. I didn't see any options for sorting your library. It seems like Vudu is catering to people who want to rent films, but not collect and watch their content.

Very nice. It seems a lot less "busy" than it used to be. I agree though that the Watchlist really needs to be there. I'm assuming the submenu for Vudu extras are there somewhere.

I will be purchasing a new streamer in October - The as yet unannounced Roku, a possible new Nvidia Shield, or possibly the Mi. We'all see what everything looks like when announcements are made.

Holy cow I love this! The navigation is great and I hope we get this as an update for current or future models. I do agree that it needs the watchlist, and I hope it has the films cover photos like the current UI. I love the current way owned films have the cover photo in the background.

Great job Vudu; give it to the rest of us. Oh, and Vudu +Extras!

Agreed. I really hope they add the Watchlist, but more importantly, the ability to sort (and filter) our purchased libraries. As it stands now, all this new app offers is a list that's "sorted by purchase time, with newest titles first." There isn't even a way to sort alphabetically for browsing through. With nearly 800 titles in my collection, that's a bit crippling.

The old app allowed us to sort by Purchase Time, Most Watched, Top Picks, Tomatometer, Release Data, as well as Alphabetical. We can also filter by Genre, Year, MPAA and Tomatometer rating. I see none of that in this new app. This *needs* to get added or I'll be working hard to retain the old version on my Sony Bravia instead.

Another nice new feature: this version of the VUDU app supports voice search too. Works really well with Android TV, so long as you use a voice-capable remote (or app.)

Glad you like it, but do note this app is currently for the Xiaomi Mi Box only.

I've also heard that purchasing UHD content is possible on this box, that UHD playback is not. Is that true?

It's compatible for 4K 60fps HDR10. Trying to decide between this and the Roku Ultra!

FYI, I was able to sideload the APK onto my Nexus Player and some generic Android TV Boxes. It plays perfectly on the Nexus with the exception of the occasional lip sync issue that I also see when I cast to the nexus, so I'm not blaming the app, I'm blaming the hardware.

On my generic Android TV boxes, the app installs and runs fine except that it tells me that my hardware isn't licensed for HDX and only plays in SD.

Anyone have a Fire TV they can test on?

Good news that it works on Nexus Player. I am really interested to find out if it works on Fire TV. I tried to side load Vudu from the Shield on the Fire TV and that didn't work. I will try it on the Fire TV if someone can get me the APK.

Got the APK, thanks Y2Bogus. Installed just fine on the Fire TV just fine but couldn't get past the login screen as the app just crashed. Installed on the Nexus Player and works fine too but won't play trailers or anything lower than HDX. Crazy they just don't release it for the Nexus Player as well in the Play Store. This is the problem with Android. Also still need an Apple TV app and an updated app for Xbox One.

Can't provide any timelines right now, but if it helps everything you mentioned above is in progress.

As for the Android TV app specifically - the Mi Box hit stores a bit early! When ready the VUDU ATV app will be available on ATV devices that don't already have VUDU. ATV devices like Nvidia Shield or Sony TVs that have an existing VUDU app will be updated with the new ATV app once it has an equivalent feature set.
