Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc).     New user, and very very pleased with my box! But I think this thread is about what we want more from it, and I am not sure that Vudu understands just how much it is losing with no subtitles.

    My wife has some kind of hearing problem that I honestly don't understand. It just freaks me out sometimes. If you don't speak in a TV accent (what I call it), she doesn't understand you. What that means is basically if you have a southern accent or a hispanic accent or a New England accent or ANY accent that isn't what I call the standard American "TV" accent, she is just going to look at you blankly and ask me what you said. It is truly ridiculous. She simply cannot watch Braveheart or The Queen or Once Upon a Time in Mexico or any movie like that. She HAS to have the subtitles.

    On a more real note, my Grandfather is functionally deaf. He also has to have the subtitles. And oh yeah, I have a 23 m/o and a 3 w/o who both like to scream. I like them a lot too.

    I have seen many ask for subtitles, and argue for their necessity. What I have not seen is anyone with authority state whether it is POSSIBLE with an update. I understand that this machine is updatable and advertised as having many new features coming soon. Is this possible with an update, and is it on Vudu's todo list? I know I can't expect a date, but can I get a "if you keep your box for 10 years, your current box will support it"?

      There's a number of other threads related to this subject. The issue is somewhat technical - it's not just as easy as adding a subtitle track to a DVD. It is indeed something that Vudu wants to add (at least that's my impression) but there are other, higher priority items before this such as getting the kinks out of playing HD, making some UI improvements, adding more and better movies to the database, etc.

      I am sure that at some point captioning will be available. I agree - it would be nice to have.

        Subtitels support will only require a sw update, so your current box is all you need. The text will be rendered with the same mechanism as the current UI graphics.
