    Free Ad Movies?

So, how do you go about getting the Free Movies with Ads that Vudu has just added? Vudu on us...

    Re: Free Ad Movies?

Just click on the orange WATCH button. There are 3 ads in the beginning of the movie. This will definitely boost Vudu's name out there.

I've seen others mention this before, but it never worked for them. I never seen it until today. Nice addition, though all the titles I would be interested in watching I already have bought or D2D them, so...

Same with me really.... Also if I'm gonna watch something I would rather own it without ads. The days of me watching ads has been over for a long time now. Also it is not just pre-roll ads, it will have ads at different intervals during the movie as well which is a definite no thank you from me...but I'm hoping that this will be a good thing for Vudu in the long run, attracting more customers and maybe cheaper content for us... fingers crossed.

On a side note - does this mean that all of the Fox/fx etc shows are free to watch now...? get it.. because they have ads even though we have paid for them... sorry couldn't resist ... but seriously...please sort that one out soon Vudu...

Nice to have some of the MGM ones that I don't own. I might try this out with a movie tonight.

Looks like this does not work on the new Android TV app yet, hopefully it is coming soon.

              Re: Free Ad Movies?

It seems they forgot to include the "Watch" button on the older interface, which my Sharp TV has, although they do have a section for the free movies. You only get the usual Buy/Rent options on them though, and ones that aren't available to buy or rent just have Add to Wish List as an option.

Been checking it out on my Oppo Blu-Ray player which has the newer interface, certainly not bad for being free- but if I could make any requests, it would be to disable the on-screen time and title display that appears for a few seconds when the movie comes back on (at least I can hit a button on the remote to get rid of it, but would be nice if I didn't have to do that) and also have them resume a couple seconds before the break-away point so that you don't miss a few seconds in between? (Scanning backwards will let you do that, but playing a movie unattended with ad breaks results in a couple seconds of the movie being cut out, sometimes missing dialogue.)

Neat idea overall- if Vudu ever did a subscription service similar to Amazon where some movies can be watched (with no interruptions) with no additional charge, I'd subscribe to that as long as the HDX quality remained the same and there were no intrusions on the material. I almost subscribed to Amazon Prime but didn't after I saw they had an annoying pop-up menu come up during end credits, and what Netflix is now doing is of course a complete abomination- it's definitely time for a similar service to take their place that focuses more on movies than TV and original content, and allows them to be watched in peace with no intrusions.

                Re: Free Ad Movies?

This is really great news. And a large selection too. I been building My Vudu library for the last few months and totally abandoned buying discs. Last year my house got destroyed by fire, so I lost my large movie collection, over 600 discs that took me years to collect. Another great thing about VUDU, no fire can touch my vudu library.

But there was no way I could replace all those movies - forever lost. I see in the free movies menu, quite a few of the movies I lost in the fire are once again available to me. The ads really don't bother me. Thank you VUDU!

                A couple questions....

Are the free movie selections permanent additions? Or do they have an expiration date? Kind of like Netflix and Crackle cycle movies?

Is there a way we can add selected free movies to My VUDU library? I don't see that option. It would be nice if I could "shop" and pick out the free movies I desire, to add to my library for later viewing.

I scanned through the list. Not much there that peaks my interest. Lots of low budget films. I think I found 5 I added to a list so I scan watch in the coming days. The TV Series list is a joke.

Me too, I had added about 4 and then found out they were only in SD so I removed them.

The problems I have have so far.

Commercials are often cut off at beginning or end. Most I could care less but there are some I wanted to see.
Not uncommon to get the same commercial played back to back. IE 1 & 2 of 3 are the same.
Most of the time it's the same commercials at each break. Let's have some variety.

I also noticed that if you stop in the middle of a movie and then resume later you have to see the same commercials again so it's best not to stop and watch the whole movie in one sitting or maybe "pause" it instead of stopping it?

I haven't watched one of the free ones yet, but seen on another forum that ads were played every 10 minutes throughout the entire movie. Is that true?

I haven't timed anything but it didn't seem anywhere near that. Watched a movie yesterday and I think there was only 3-4 commercial breaks for a 90 min movie.

One weird one though was a different title I watch earlier in the week. It gave me a commercial break 2 min before the end of the movie.

It doesn't seem like they are coded into specific sections of the movies. IE there are breaks in weird sections of the movie compared to when you watch a movie edited for TV with breaks. Most breaks just don't feel natural.

It's repeats several of the same commercials even if you don't interrupt play. My guess is because the service being brand new, they really haven't accumulated a whole lot of sponsors yet to buy commercial air time. Much like when Hulu was in it's infancy, you would see the same commercial several times in one show. Early days of Crackle was even worse....a Crackle show stops for three commercials....and all three commercials were the same commercial played back to back.
