    Some New Disappointments with Vudu

Hey fellow Vudu'ers, I don't know about you all, but I've become rather frustrated and disappointed with Vudu lately. I've been a long fan of the platform, but the more I do some research I just become more disappointed. Maybe some of you feel my frustrations, or have some relieving words.

    Recently:
    1. I've noticed that almost every film on iTunes has extras. I understand Vudu cannot make the choice about whether or not it can allow extras, but I was very surprised to see the number of great films on iTunes that have them. Vudu has done a very nice job of making their Vudus Extras available this past summer, but its stopped.
    2. They continually rely and seem to be content with an unsophisticated appearance and UI. There's something strange about a UI that directs the viewer, when they are watching a film with +Bonus Features, to have to click on the film twice to view it like on Deadpool or Force Awakens. I don't know about anyone else, but I would like that experience consolidated so that when I select on the film I can watch it and the extras on the side, not having to select the film and then having to select it again to finally view it. I'm hoping we'll get an update on the UI soon that improves this. Also, why do we constantly have to put up with banners across our purchased films that state, "Bundle & Save, +Bonus Features, etc." We own them. I don't want to see anymore of these advertisements, or make them more appealing. It just looks downright amateurish with such banners.
    3. Content has really been a disappointment lately and I can see many of us have felt it. Just through my own experiences it bothers me when every other platform out there (iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, hell even Playstation Video) has content and video quality that Vudu does not. Once again, I understand it's not up to Vudu, but their team needs some improved negotiations or something. From my own experiences it frustrates me to see the first two seasons of Justice League, the Aeon Flux series, the high definition of great films like House of Flying Daggers are available on other platforms, but not on Vudu. There are a very few that stick out to me.

I know it may seem that I'm complaining, but I know Vudu can do better. Last summer was so exciting when they made available so many previously unavailable films. In addition, I appreciate that Vudu listens to their fans; I think we offer great insight and we want to see them succeed and be the best. They are my preferred platform, but they must continue to evolve, improve, expand, and become more sophisticated.

Vudu do you see any of these future changes?

    Thank you!!!!

Well said. I love Vudu and the many great features provided. But it can be so much better! I just hope they continue to evolve, improve, and at a much faster pace then is currently happening.

Re: Some New Disappointments with Vudu

I agree with pretty much everything. Vudu was on a roll converting the +Bonus Features to Vudu Extras and then just abruptly stopped. There are still about 80 bundles that need to be converted to Vudu Extras.

They also need to get rid of Extras+ and convert those to Vudu Extras. There are 150(!) movies with Extras+. Vudu please convert these to Vudu Extras so that we can watch them on devices like Roku.

I also REALLY wish we could remove movies & tv seasons from bundles and just have them appear like they were purchased individually.

Disney Movies Anywhere makes it easy to compare all the major digital video providers since you own the same movies in each...

Last summer one of the competitors (starts with an a) re-encoded their whole HD 1080p library with a higher bitrate (12 to 15 Mbps video, 640kbps audio) and tweaked the encoder settings. It really helped with grain retention and detail! Macroblocking is pretty much non existent. Really made me feel more like I was watching a Blu-ray instead of a streaming video.

Is there any chance vudu HDX will eventually get a re-encoded higher bitrate, higher quality version too?

          Is that Apple or Amazon?

I'm looking at the downloaded sizes of various Apple iTunes movies. The math suggest they are still only ~5 Mbps for 1080p.

Didn't me to be cryptic, starts with a, ends with zon

vudu HDX looks much better than itunes 1080p (the bitrate is low, about 4-5Mbps like you said)
