Criterion Collection Quality Dispute...Am I wrong???

Ok so I saw that one of my favorite Criterion Collection films (Le Samourai) was available on VUDU, I had seen it long ago, and noticed that it was available it 1080p, so I grabbed it up! I watched the film, but kept thinking the whole time that the quality did not seem up to Criterion's usual standards. After, I did some research and found that Criterion never officially released a 1080p version of this film, therefore this 1080p version must be a crappy upscale of the DVD version. Now, I only buy Criterions for their impeccable quality, so I naturally politely requested a refund. The reply like A WEEK LATER, was basically, "You've watched it so too bad". I said, fair enough, charge me for a rental, and refund the rest, because this is clearly not the quality I was expecting (again, very polite). To that they replied, we can delete it, but we will not give you a refund. WHY WOULD I DELETE IT IF I DON'T GET A REFUND?? This to me is a misrepresentation of a quality brand, and I will be contacting Criterion about this and I would dispute the charge, but I used my VUDU credit to purchase it. I feel this is very wrong. Somebody tell me I'm wrong here...

The only thing I can offer as far as information goes is that Criterion's streaming service has it and they also show it as being in 1080p. They have a number of titles in 1080p that have not been released yet on disc, so that shouldn't be used as a reference for whether such a copy exists.

Just as a piece of advice be careful disputing charges with VUDU, I know someone who did and they froze his entire account.

A lot of titles here are in 1080p and have never officialy had a 1080p Blu-ray released, and I assume they are either upscaled, or the studio provided new/updated encodes in HD, but if they did that, why not just release a Blu-ray? Money? I guess. Also, there's 1080p releases here that look like crap, as do the official Blu-rays.

I'm curious as to how Vudu can freeze someone's account by disputing a charge. If you go over their terms and conditions it clearly states what they can freeze or delete an account for and disputing a charge is not one of them. If my account were frozen over a charge not only would I contact the Better Business Bureau but my States Attorney Generals office and contacting a very good lawyer. I've invested tens of thousands of dollars in the over 2,500 movies I have and to have it frozen over a charge dispute and I'd be writing letters and making some calls. There has to be more to that story than a simple charge dispute.

This is interesting, and I would like to find out if the VUDU version is the "official" version from Criterion. I would doubt it, but who knows. If it is not, then I feel that I should be entitled to a refund. You buy Criterion, because of their record of restoration and quality. It would be nice if a representative from VUDU would comment on this.

Why don't you get the 7 day free trial of their service and compare?

I may do that, but an official word would certainly help me get a refund over just my eyeball comparison. I think I'll have to contact Criterion.

Scammers who rent/buy movies on Vudu, watch them, then tell their credit card company that they didn't make those purchases. FREE MOVIES! BTW, the BBB is worthless, they don't really help in these cases, it's more like Yelp in a way.
