Re: When is VUDU going to start Streaming HDR content

When will this happen and what happens to UHD rights already in our collections that are currently listed as Dolby Vision? Do we have to re-buy rights to HDR versions of said movies?

I would also like to know this, as it seems VUDU could add a HDR10 stream to the already-purchased UHD title that has Dolby Vision. At the time of purchasing my first UHD movie, I didn't realize there were different formats of HDR (but, of course there is).

If Vudu can't just offer a title as "UHD" that includes all available video/audio formats, it's going to get really confusing for the consumer, as well as sticky when you attempt to play the same movie on a different TV in the house that doesn't have the same capabilities...

Typically, Vudu scales downward appropriately; If you buy the UHD version of a movie and attempt to watch it on a 1080P TV, you'll automatically get the next-best version (HDX) streamed to you. I could see this working the same way once there is a HDR10 option. If you buy the UHD Dolby Vision version, you get all of the lower versions: UHD HDR10, HDX, HD, SD, etc.

I fail to understand why a Vudu rep can't just give us a time frame for when HDR UHD titles will be available and if we're going to have to buy the UHD titles again or if they will be incorporated into the current listings with Dolby Vision. I'm looking to buy another 4K TV and I want to know if I need to get one that supports Dolby Vision or if I can buy a Sony with HDR so that I can finally watch all the Sony UHD titles too. If Vudu starts offering HDR titles soon then a Sony becomes a better decision. If not, I'll forgo getting a Sony and buy an LG to fully enjoy the other UHD movies with Dolby Vision. Either way I'll need the latest Roku.

Latest Roku won't help you with Dolby Vision. They only support HDR 10.

Based on what I am reading, that is LG that is doing that and not a limitation of ARC. My reply was to someone who said that you couldn't do Atmos over ARC which was incorrect. My Vizio P series does Atmos over ARC
