When is VUDU going to start Streaming HDR content

I read a while back VUDU is jumping on the HDR train. When is this expected to happen and will the digital copy of 4k Ultra HD blu rays that are not in Dolby Vision get the HDR tag instead of HDX?

The 4k movies (mostly) are in Dolby Vision which is (one of the) HDR formats.

Some UHD Blu-Rays from studios have Digital HD copies that redeem as UHD(4k) while others redeem as HDX

Not quite. Vudu does not support HDR10 ... it only supports Dolby Vision at the present time.

Only Televisions can process Dolby Vision ... but televisions cannot send Dolby Atmos over ARC or optical. So one cannot enjoy a Vudu HDR movie that has Atmos (like Lucy).

Only Streaming boxes like Roku and Shield can process Atmos and send it to the receiver over HDMI. But streaming boxes cannot process Dolby Vision. They can only process HDR10. So again, one cannot enjoy a Vudu movie that has HDR option (since Vudu only offers Dolby Vision format).

So there is there no intention for VUDU to utilize HDR10? Not every 4K movie will have Dolby Vision while all 4k blu ray movies have at least HDR10.

Vudu announced support for HDR10, it just hasn't been implemented yet...

This is not true. Both the new LG TVs and the Vizio P series do Atmos audio over ARC. I have the Vizio P65-C1 and my receiver gets Atmos audio over ARC.

It is not lossless Atmos but streaming does not offer lossless audio anyway.

FandangoNow does on selected titles downloaded with Vidity and watched on compatible Samsung TV's. Streaming it doesn't appear so.

                  CinemaNow doesn't appear to either.

This is incorrect. Universal gives UHD UV copies when you register the digital copy of a UHD disc (which is why I buy their titles more than anyone else). FandangoNow provides that UV UHD copy in your UV Library on the Roku. FandangoNow streams all of them with HDR 10. No Samsung or Vidity required. The Vidity option only applies to "UHD with HDR" titles you buy on their web site or through the Samsung set. You can buy UHD titles directly from FandangoNow without HDR through a device like Roku Ultra. Sony offers a UHD streaming copy with their UHD discs, but only on select Sony TVs with their app. No other studio is offering this UV value at all.

The thread was about HDR specifically and not UHD. If FandangoNOW is streaming in HDR with HDR10 I can't find it on their website anywhere.

                      FandangoNOW website:
                      "ULTRA HD (STREAMING & DOWNLOAD)

What content is available in HDR?

To view the complete selection of 4K content that is currently available to download, please see the "VIDITY 4K Ultra HD" list on your Samsung-compatible TV. Look for the symbol at the bottom of the movie poster."

They may well stream in HDR10 but all I see on their website seems to say otherwise. If they are they need to be clear about it.

I have an LG oled tv. It does not do atmos over arc. It doesn't even do DD+. Just Dolby digital.

As I said in my post, any Universal UHD with HDR disc that you redeem the digital copy, the UV copy will stream in UHD with HDR in My Ultraviolet Library in FandangoNow on the Roku Ultra. The app does support HDR 10.

That was more helpful. Thanks. Obviously FandangoNOW needs to update their FAQS
