Re: VUDU UHD ENABLED ON MY SAMSUNG TV!

Okay, so here's one I have spent the last hour trying to figure out....................I own a Samsung TV, model UN65KS9000FXZA, and I own an Xbox One S.................I have installed VUDU on both devices, and made sure to put all of the settings for video quality as high as they go on both devices..................on both devices (Samsung TV and Xbox One S) I can watch "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" in UHD, but every other title I own in UHD (GoG Vol. 2, both Sherlock Holmes, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, etc.) only play in HDX, even though I own them in UHD. When I play "Fantastic Beasts" the Dolby logo in the top right says "Atmos" but on all the movies that only play in HDX it says "Digital Plus"....................................the question is if all the settings are the same, why will "Fantastic Beasts" play in UHD, but none of the other movies will?

      Hi DavisFamily,

Did you open a support ticket for this? If you're still having the issue, could you send me the email address you used to create your Vudu account in a private message. I would be happy to take a look for you.

I've reviewed your account and have confirmed that you do not own GotG Vol. 2, both Sherlock Holmes, and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back in UHD, you own them in HDX.

Does this mean VUDU is supporting HDR10 now?
When will the Sony TV / Android TV app be updated?

Any update on this? Why it takes forever to update your VUDU app on 2016 Samsung TV to enable 4K, UHD on your app? It's already been 4 months since you are working on this bugs. That's more than enough to fix this bugs that you guys talking about. We deserve an update on this instead putting us in the dark.

We have been trying for almost a year to get Samsung to fix critical firmware bugs on these 2016 TV models to launch Vudu UHD, but they have not managed to yet. Just as frustrated as you are...

What exactly does that mean tho? You've been giving us that vague answer (critical firmware bugs) for months without any real explanation. All we want is a Vudu app with UHD & HDR support, I'm not understanding why this is so difficult.

When a UHD movie is played back on certain TV models, after a certain amount of time there is severe macroblocking, and after a while playback on *any* video app (including Netflix, etc) may hang until the TV is hard power cycled. We can't release the app on those TVs until that is resolved, of course, and it's not a VUDU bug (it's a decoder/firmware bug) so we can't fix it, either, Samsung needs to fix it.

I really appreciate your informative posts Jake, it's easy to tell there is a lot of work and passion into making Vudu the best user experience it can be.

Any information on the JU series? It's basically the Samsung 2015 UHD model. I love the TV but hate that I can't get UHD digital movies on VUDU yet. I hope there's some progress soon!

Thanks for any info related to this!

Edit: just for clarification I'm using a Roku 4 to stream but to my Samsung 4k TV

If you are using the Roku 4 connected to a TV, then the requirement is that the TV supports HDCP 2.2 on the HDMI input. You also may want to make sure that the HDMI input is also enabled for "deep color" or whatever Samsung calls it (for 10 bit input). Unfortunately many 2014/2015 TV models did not support 4K@60Hz, HDCP 2.2, and 10 bit color on the same HDMI port - and if yours even does, it may only be on one of the HDMI ports, so that's important to check, as well.

Thank you but even if I do this does VUDU support UHD in this method? I thought I had to have the Roku plus a supported TV per your compatibility post.

Tv has hdcp 2.2. Not sure about 10 bit color.

Supporting UHD on the app on the TV and via HDMI are two completely unrelated things.

HDMI support is completely up to "negotiation" between the Roku and the TV hardware via HDMI/HDCP, it's not an app compatibility issue.

Support for Vudu UHD on a 2015 Samsung TV itself would involve Samsung choosing to update the TV firmware, which they have not decided to do for now. We are still working with Samsung to support the low end 2016 (KU6500) models but progress has been slow, to say the least.
