    Atmos sound on movies

I have an atmos 5.2.4 setup but don't have a 4k TV and don't plan on buying one anytime soon. I have many movies on vudu and trying to figure out which (if any) support Dolby atmos. I see the only ones that have them are in UHD. Can I play those movies in regular 1080p tv but still get just the atmos sound? Or how does it work? Somehow I don't even see UHD movies available on my streaming device( OPPO 103). I did however get the Dolby atmos demos on vudu and those play the atmos sound in my 1080p TV. Anyone know how I can get atmos movies?

I have heard conflicting information on this. I am in the same boat. I have been purchasing the UHD discs for movies with Atmos because of this uncertainty.

Vudu, please respond in this thread and let us know.

I sent this question to Vudu support. If I get an answer, I will share it.

Atmos audio would be AWESOME on 1080p content, but it seems Atmos is being used as a way to market UHD premiums (Most studios are doing this with their 4K disc releases too vs Blu-ray release). I would love this feature, and I'm a 4K content buyer when there's the option.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that even when buying a UHD title it won't work as far as the Atmos audio because it will detect a 1080p display and only play the HDX version instead.

            64 UHD
            794 HDX
            2 SD

Right, that's accurate that content will only play the audio currently corresponding to resolution you are viewing. Maybe someday that will change, which is why audio options would be a cool feature on Vudu (additional language support etc).

                That makes sense, unfortunately.

This is true and it sucks. I have the UHDX copy of Kong skull island I redeem when I bought my combo pack. I only see the HDX even though it says you own the UHDX version of it since I don't have a 4k TV. Playback in 1080p for me who cares, but give me the atmos soundtrack like the regular blu ray has!!

So if I get Vudu through a 4k disc player am I good to go, or do I need to have a 4k display device also?

Your display has to be 4K as well to get full anything. 4K, Atmos & HDR. Not all UHD movies has Atmos either. Take the new Halloween movie. That is DTS:X, and even though it is UHD, it only has Dolby Digital plus on VUDU. I'd love some Atmos love on HDX movies though. I have the same problem like Ki11abee. Everything is 4k, except my 1080P Panasonic TV.

Before I had a 4K TV, I was able to get Dolby Atmos on movies that had it.
