Netflix Raising Prices - Keeping Both Price Tiers

I thought that Netflix would simply remove the lower tier pricing option and just make their premium service (with access to 4K content) the default as that would be in accordance with what was set by Apple. However, they are raising the price on both tiers which is especially confusing in light of the news by Apple. I thought the whole point of Apple consolidating HD and UHD was because customers weren't willing to pay a premium for something they couldn't see and to give them incentive to buy a 4K TV. It doesn't seem like Netflix is on the same page. I still think consolidation is what we can expect in the future.

I'm hearing that Netflix is raising prices because of all the costs of their original programming. I just think they should keep the costs the same and stop doing so many shows. They're not a TV network, they are supposed to be a disc or digital rental company. Same with Amazon who is also trying to get it's hands on everything and not concentrate on what they're good at.

Meh... my cost for entertainment went from .33 cents a day to .37 cents a day. I’m not going to worry about it.

You must not have the top tier plan because it's going from $.40 to $.46 for me. But it all adds up when you consider all the costs of movies including purchase, rentals, etc. I'm starting to buy more digital codes now instead of so many discs because it would be impossible for me (cost wise) to buy everything on disc or to buy the digital copy on Vudu, FandangoNow, iTunes, etc.

It's a matter of spending money to make money. Their original programming is costly, but was higher benefit to them as there isn't licensing involved with content. Without original programming, their entire business would be at the mercy of film studios deciding to license content to Netflix. Theoretically, if they had never delved into original programming, their entire streaming service would be forced to shut down if every studio decided to stop licensing.

I personally am not a fan of Netflix, and I would not have their service if it weren't for exclusive content. I much prefer Vudu and iTunes, as you don't need to worry about your favorite movies or shows going away each month.

I used to love Netflix but they've become unusable as they continually pander to those with short attention spans. First they started breaking into end credits with their silly menus telling you to hurry up and watch something else, now they're putting a "Skip Intro" graphic on the BEGINNING of shows and movies to click on and skip that part, spoiling it for those of us who actually do want to watch the entire thing. I can't believe that people who produce shows for Netflix are happy about that.

I love the skip into feature. Once I've seen a show two or three times, I don't want to have to watch the theme song every episode thereafter, which never changes.

I love that option. I would rather skip to the beginning of the show. No point in seeing the opening credits for dozens of episodes of a TV show. But at least with an option you can do what you like. The same goes with the option to skip to the next episode. I love that too.

Having the option is fine, but if I don't want to skip the intros I don't want to see that graphic popping up.
