Vudu Upgrades Itunes Titles to 4K if Movie Not in MA Library

The only option for Vudu customers who spent potentially thousands of dollars on purchasing and redeeming those titles on Vudu instead of Itunes is to buy the movie again in UHD (often at a much higher price and only on Vudu since Itunes doesn't allow users to upgrade their MA titles). This does not make any sense whatsoever. For someone who would have gladly spent a reasonable upgrade fee, I'm now extremely hesitant to drop any more cash on what Itunes users are getting for free. To make matters even worse, many of those Itunes 4K titles are from SD redemptions. This is no longer a case of Vudu users not getting what they are not owed when Vudu themselves are giving away UHD licenses to Itunes customers.

With MA, redemptions have also become much more complicated with users having to choose whether to redeem their purchase on MA and lose their UV rights or Vudu. Itunes and its competitors really need to address these bugs and find a solution that will benefit all digital customers.

I took the physical codes for movies I own, where I only redeemed the Ultraviolet portion in the past. In this case, all of the Bourne movies. I then recently redeemed the iTunes halves of all of my codes, and received in my iTunes purchase history the UHD/4K versions of each title.

My Google account now reflects ownership of the UHD versions of those titles. This means my Movies Anywhere account shows ownership of those titles in UHD/4K. As a Movies Anywhere partner Vudu should grant you access to the UHD versions (where available) of titles Movies Anywhere says you own in UHD/4K.

So, until Vudu properly reflects these titles as UHD, I'll have to access them through Google/YouTube. That's simply the way it will go. The content providers who provide the content properly will get the customers.

That would be nice for sure, but won't be of any help to those of us who only redeemed the UV portion of the code or who no longer have their old slips. I never thought I'd need them at the time as I was fully invested in Vudu/UV at that point. Vudu should find a solution that actually benefits their own customers, not just those who purchased their films elsewhere. If all content providers provided 4K versions when available, then this would not even be an issue. The whole point of UV was similar to MA during its infancy. Now that they have lost that advantage, Vudu needs to step up.

Additionally, with MA we are already moving toward singular redemptions. This should apply retroactively as well.

iTunes upgrading HD to 4K for free is such a huge competitive advantage right now that I can't imagine VUDU won't be following suit. I think VUDU was taken by surprise which is why they have not responded yet.

Vudu joining MA was supposed to legitimize Vudu as one of the major retailers but in fact, it's given Apple an even greater competitive advantage. I think you're right in that Vudu and all the other major retailers will feel pressure to follow suit. But as of right now, the only assurances we've been given is that our UHD licenses will eventually upgrade if a 4K title is not yet available(from one studio), which at this point, is simply not good enough.

If you have a UHD license, what is there to upgrade? Do you mean your other linked services will eventually see that you own it in UHD on VUDU?

And yes, thus far MA has helped Apple the most. For now, I'm exclusively buying iTunes movies so I know they'll go 4K without paying more.

Right, there is no upgrade. Only word is that Vudu will eventually honor our 4K redemptions even if they don't have that title currently available in UHD. This is little comfort to those of us who have already purchased or redeemed the titles we are most interested in through Vudu in HD.
