    VUDO Pricing question

Hello. I am new to the VOD set top box 'market' and have been looking for a VOD solution that will deliver HD.

It seems that Apple and VUDO would be the stand-outs. In searching for reviews of VUDO I see a lot of discussion of a recent $99 offer for the box.

My question is: Is the $300 box being sold today a new versions from the $99 unit? If so, what are the differences and if not when might we expect to see a similar price?

    Thanks. D

The $99 special was a Christmas special only (ran a couple of days after Christmas, though). It is the same box that they are selling today, no updates (firmware/software is free). Someone else will have to chime in if they know when the next possible sale will come up. Possibly around a holiday, but who knows.

      Thanks for the question deparson,

The VUDU, Model VUDUBX100, is the same model they have been selling. There hasn't been any hardware changes but as stated the software has gone though some great updates. Not only does VUDU provide HD and HDX movies at 1080p/24, but also added VUDU Labs where you can watch YouTube, view Picasa& Flickr, play games, and watch other Internet "PodCast" feeds.

Post on the board if you have any other questions....

Thanks for the information and for the welcome!

I think I posted this question on the Networking forum but I don't see my post now but I might have not done it right. So, here goes...

How much network usage should I plan on with a VUDU? We have amazing Internet service (20MB down/2 up) but Comcast is limiting it to 250gb per month. Any concerns?

Even the heaviest users (4-5 movies a week) have not reported bumping into that CAP on Comcast. Unless you are going to be renting/purchasing new movies every day I doubt you will have much to worry about.

We won't be renting that much so I won't worry about it. We are looking on ebay for a unit now. I can't see spending $300 but it looks like they can be had on ebay for ~~$150 or so which I think is doable.

            Thanks for the information.

I paid the full price at Best Buy last week but they were running a promotion - $200 in movie credits when you create your on-line account. So, though I didn't pay $99 the net of it will be the same at some point down the line.

I don't know if that promotion is still going on or not. I think the movie credits works better for vudu as it entices people to watch movies. Given their peer2peer distribution architecture that seems like it would help out a lot.

If you want to see some of the worst caps just look at Time Warner. 40 GB a month:
