    HD Movies to Buy

Does anyone know why there appear to be so few movies available in HD (or HDX) for purchase? Lots to rent, just not to purchase...

    Thanks!

Because the movie studios don't think we're worthy of owning HD versions of the digital content.

We all wish it were not this way.

If you read a lot of the blogs out there the studios have invested heavily into the DVD chain. Marketing, distribution, store promotions, etc. This chain also provides a lot of profit for the retailer and other involved. With digital distribution a lot of the links in this chain disappear with their profits.

But look how long it took the music industry to embrace digital distribution and then finally get it right with removal of DRM. Give the movie industry some time and I am sure they also come around and fully embrace the model.

Like others have mentioned, studios don't really have a good grasp of rental model (24-hr restrictions? ) let alone purchase model. But we do see limited "tests" ever now and then, e.g. three Bourne movies and a recent promo for Riddick flicks, a Jet Li flick, and 24: Redemption.

What? You want the studios to give us copies of the movies they own in exchange for what, currency of some kind, I assume? What are you, some kind of capitalist?!

            Totally on target.

And as seen with the rise of file sharing they don't understand that without a consumer friendly model to SELL their movies they will just end up giving them away.

In the end, IMO, it is much better to undertake disintermediation (sp?) than to die a slow death.

Actually I think the content owners want to make a flexable enough ownership model but also keeps piracy low but the licensing/royalty model needs to change also.

From other posts here on the VUDU board and other articles on the Internet it seems that each type of media distribution (DVD, VOD, Cable, Broadcast, etc.) has their own set of rules and royalities which slows down the entire process.

                Hi all,
Just wanted to say hello to all the fellow Vudu users. Got my box right around Christmas and love it.
