    Upgrades. Upgrades! UPGRADES!

Here's THREE different forms of upgrade pricing that I'd like to see VUDU institute.
Of course, it's not entirely up to VUDU.
Studios facilitate licensing deals, but it's to their benefit to cooperate.

    1) Upgrading display resolution; that is, SD to HDX/UHD or HDX to UHD
If we've already purchased a license at one resolution, why must we pay full price for an upgrade?
Obviously, it's possible: iTunes is doing it!

    2) Rent-to-Own Upgrade Pricing
    I've rented a movie.
"Hey, I really liked that movie. I'd like to own it."
Again, why do I have to pay full price to own it?
Obviously, it's possible. Verizon FiOS is doing it!

    3) Complete your collection.
I own Jurassic Park and Jurassic World.
Now, Universal is licensing a five-picture bundle of all five films in the series.
Why do I have to pay the full bundle price when I already own a license for two of the movies?
I'm sure it's possible; however, I don't know if anyone is doing it. Sigh!

The point is VUDU/Walmart should be using their marketing muscle to negotiate these kinds of licenses for their subscribers.
It's in their and the studios' interest.

Now, do "The Suits" actually read and consider these suggestions or is this forum just here to placate the masses?

    Ciao for now!
    Mike

I'd agree with you on the three types. Dynamic Pricing (reduced priced based on what is already owned in a bundle) would be a HUGE plus as well as the long sought resolution upgrades!

I will be happy if they implemented just scenario #1.

I like option one a lot. I am with you but sadly it is NOT in the studios best interest to offer this. It is in their best interest for customers to re buy the titles at full price. Not wanting to do this of course, just playing devil's advocate. This only works with in demand titles for them of course. How many times have we all bought Star Wars and Lord of the Rings movies? I got them on VHS, then DVD, and finally Blu-ray. And for LOR I even got the theatrical and extended editions!

It may be in the studios best interest for some titles. But I think that if this option was available, many people would upgrade many titles they would not buy a second copy of otherwise. So in the grand scheme of things, it is in studios best interest in general. An upgrade profit, or none at all in most cases.

Came to the forum to suggest #1 and #3...

I own a bunch of HDX movies... and I would love to own the UHD versions, but I'm not paying 100% of the price for just an upgrade in resolution.

Also, its kind of annoying seeing bundle discounts, and you already own a couple movies in the bundle... It just makes sense to remove that movie from the bundle price.

And now that I've read #2 I'd want that too. But admittidly, I tend to only rent movies when they are on sale for $1-2. But maybe if they had this feature it would encourage me to rent movies at $4-5.

Yeah - it is odd to me that these perks have not been implemented. I get it that the studios set the pricing, but with physical media, owner's could sell what they previously bought, and upgrade to the new technology. Dvd to blu, or blu to 4k. Since we cannot sell our Digital movies we have already purchased, it is unfortunate some of these perks cannot be granted. Well said Mikey for bringing it up.

Amazon does this for TV shows.

Already own a few episodes? Just pay the difference to complete the season.

TBH it shouldn't matter if its in the studios or vudus hands. They're both leaving money on the table.

Most people don't rebuy a movies series in UHD when they already own HDX. Even with excellent internet speed, the price is not worth the cost.
Some people may, not the smartest move imo, but I can't say what other people should do with their money.

Point being... Most people aren't rebuying 100% of a movie to watch a better resolution. If they offered a discount to "upgrade" that is money they can take in.
Some money from a lot of people is going to be better than more money from very few people.

Same for anything else here... So often I would buy up these bundles if I didn't already own part of the bundle. That is kind of inherit with an interesting bundle, you probably already had interest and bought part of it. I could be given a discount and buy it for less because I own part of it... OR I don't buy it at all. I would think some money is better than none.

Being Xmas time, I'd even say, if I buy a bundle and already own a movie... give me a promo code so I can gift that movie to somebody else. Otherwise, they're technically asking for money for nothing. No thanks.

And right now, I want to rent and watch Incredibles 2... HDX rental is $6. I will never rent a movie for $6. That is absurd imo. They have to do something to make that more appealing... Like Rent-to-Buy.

I agree on all points. I have many things in SD I'd like to upgrade to HDX and Many HDX I'd like to upgrade to 4k. I'd love if they did free upgrades as you suggest, but I'm open to paying a reasonable price for it as well (though I would like them to do a bulk discount as many of us have a lot of movies to upgrade). I paid ~$40 for a TV series in SD that didn't have HDX at the time there is no way I'm going to pay another $60 now to upgrade to HD from SD. I might pay the $20 difference, but I'm not paying full price again.

I never rent movies anymore so that one doesn't apply to me.

There are several collections I would like to complete, and several bundles I haven't bought because I already owned part of them.

I agree with all of these. Also, here's one Vudu could do that costs them literally nothing: If there's a bundle and you already own every part of it, mark the bundle as owned. Example: the Star Trek 10-movie bundle, which Vudu will happily sell me for $69.95 even though all ten movies have a big green check mark and the indication "you own HDX"

Number 1 would be perfect. I think they tired this out o e time, they should have stuck with it.

All three options are needed, come on Vudu.

I agree with all of the above. I would also like to include that when there is a different version of a movie that when I hover over it, that it advise me of which version I already own. For example, theatrical, unrated, director's cut, extended addition, etc..
