I can tell you this: a couple months ago, Vudu offered Pan Am Season 1 for free. I took it. Since I got it, there's been a couple more episodes, that have been added to my collection automatically. Hopefully Vudu will do the same thing for you.
That's very useful to know, thanks. Based on that, I have a very tentative hope that they would automatically allow me to access the HDX version if I've "scanned" the Blu-ray. You can imagine how another visit would be a PITA, and an additional $2 fee would be a dealbreaker for many people.

Can HD DVDs be used? technically they are still DVDs. If so I can probably find a bunch of HD DVD titles out of the 350+ I have gathering dust in my cabinet.

I hope you can get those for $2. You might have to argue at the Photo Center counter to keep them from charging you $5.

                  Re: UltraViolet FAQ's

Still questions. Thor (2011) is on the list but on Vudu it has no rental option at all and only has SD purchase. So what type of conversion do you get from Blu-ray?

Strange, these titles from my wish list (from participating studios) are surpringly not on the list:

                  Contagion - Warner Bros
                  Excalibur - Warner Bros
                  Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) - 20th Century Fox
The Sitter - 20th Century Fox

                    Contagion - Warner Bros
                    Excalibur - Warner Bros
Mr. & Mrs. Smith - 20th Century Fox
The Sitter - 20th Century Fox
Contagion was already released with Ultraviolet so that is probably why it is not on the list. As far as Fox, I don't even know why they were listed as a supporting studio because I didn't see ANY Fox titles on the list from my collection. They are supposedly holding out on new Ultraviolet releases till later in the year but it looks like they are holding out on old ones too. The other two you mentioned probably just are not available yet.

Regarding Thor, I am assuming the list does not match what is on Vudu currently. I believe it is so because I searched for some titles on the list which are not even on Vudu at all yet.

I think you would have a good argument because the sign specifically says "Same Quality $2". HD-DVD's are 1080p just like Vudu.

From my wish list I found these Fox titles:

                        Planet of the Apes (2001)
                        Planet of the Apes (1968)

Right on, better luck than I. Maybe they are just bringing older titles for now.

Considering Warner Brothers is a partner company, will there be an option to transfer my digital copies from their Warner Brothers Digital Copy Manager to Vudu/UltraViolet?
