WARNING Disc to Digital Bug causes HDX to change to SD

I just thought I would let everyone know of a bug with the disc to digital program, so you don't get caught like I did.

I was using a Walmart login to access Vudu. I took DVDs to Walmart and paid $5 each to upgrade to HDX Vudu titles. The actual process of doing so was easy and went off without a hitch.

I downloaded the Xbox 360 Vudu app on my secondary TV, and found out that the app does not work with the Walmart login. So I created a new Vudu account direct with Vudu and I linked to my Ultraviolet account to get access to my newly purchased HDX library. I then called Vudu customer support to merge my old Walmart account to my newly created Vudu account.

Now all my HDX disc to digital videos show up as SD, not HDX like I paid for.

Vudu customer support is aware of the issue, but so far have been not been able to tell me anything substantive other than they are trying to figure out how to fix it.

For now I sit without the digital videos in HDX that I paid for and no good answers from Vudu. I am qthinking about trying to get a refund from Walmart since I do not have the product I paid for and Vudu can't fix it.

Be warned, do not migrate from Walmart to Vudu like I did or risk losing your HDX Ultraviolet movies.

Upon further review, it is only the Warner Bros. movies that changed from HDX to SD as discussed in this thread: *http://forum.vudu.com/showthread.php?t=139581

Thanks for the warning. I also have a Wal-Mart account and you're right, you can't access your Vudu account from an XBOX when you have a Wal-Mart login. Standard DVD's are not always showing up in HDX. One of mine was an old pan scan version. For me it's only been one movie. If I take a standard DVD to upgrade to HDX, I expect an upgrade not an old version of the movie made for old tv's with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Vudu advised me they'll request the correct version of the movie from the studio. Maybe I'm going to have to find the movie on blu ray as the movie is still showing in pan scan. I hope they get this fixed for you and if not, take your receipt back to Wal-Mart and get your money back. Make sure you ask for a manager if you can't get satisfaction with one of the customer service associates. Don't wait too long.

Great point, Sandra. Our home theater TV has been widescreen since 2001, and if I paid for an HD digital copy, I'd be very disappointed with a 4:3 pan-and-scan version.

Can anyone from Vudu tell us who can best help us if we're dissatisfied with the results of a D2D purchase? Walmart? Vudu? UltraViolet?

Re: WARNING Disc to Digital Bug causes HDX to change to SD

I'm glad I'm doing this on a Vudu account and only converting Blu-rays. This seems like a serious issue that Vudu needs to work on. For now, I would suggest to everyone to do D2D on a Vudu account instead of a Walmart account.

With Vudu customer support completely unable to correct this problem, I went back to Walmart and had them re-run the transaction for the discs that did not stay HDX. Manager gave me store credit to re-buy the movies again. Works now...

Glad to hear you were able to get your movies back in HDX. Walmart is usually pretty good at satisfying a customer.

Hoping Vudu can get the bugs corrected eventually.

We do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. We're working with our partners to correct the bugs we encounter as we go through this process. We appreciate the feedback; we'll work to correct these problems to help make D2D a more user-friendly process.
