Movie shell game - Now you see it, Now you Don't

Whenever a streaming service negotiates a contract to stream titles exclusively they disappear from DTD. It's also why many titles are missing from DTD that should be there. Some Marvel titles have dropped off because of a HBO contract. Word of advice. Just because it's listed today does not mean it will be there tomorrow. Don't wait if you have a title you really want to add to DTD. I made that mistake already.

Right now the digital media war is in full swing. Cable cutters and Netflix are causing a lot of anxiety for the paid TV providers. Streaming is in the cross hairs of big business. Paid TV providers are looking for ways to limit bandwidth and content to protect their core business. Part of that strategy is to lock up media with exclusive contracts to stream. In the end, the consumers lose again.

I made that mistake. I was planning on taking my movies down to Walmart in the next couple of weeks, and now I see that Capt America, Thor, and Iron Man are missing from my list. It would have been nice it we had received some kind of warning, otherwise I would have already done it.

Good advice. I was wondering if titles could be taken from D2D but now we know. Luckily I converted my Marvel titles just prior to them being pulled.

True but typically, when these contracts start, these movies are removed completely from the Vudu store for rent/buy (unless you already own it) not just from the D2D list. Look at "How to Train Your Dragon" which finally reappeared on Vudu on May 1st after making a tour of what felt like all the premium channels. It didn't even come up in search results until while it was on the premium channels.

Iron Man 2 was the marvel title I didn't add in time. I added it to my list earlier in the day. I went back to print my list on my way to Walmart. Entire list Gone. Couldn't add it either. My "add to list" page was locked up. Had to call customer support to fix the issue. I don't Know if having a title being pulled caused the lock up. That's when I was told about the HBO Marvel contract by Vudu customer service. It took them several hours to resolve the issue.

There are many titles listed on Vudu for sale or rent that you cannot add via DTD. The all ready limited availability seems to change daily. My reference to the shell game was about DTD availability and a helpful note not to procrastinate on adding your titles. Iron man 2 availability changed on me within 2 hours.

I do not work for Vudu
