some HDX movies only have stereo sound?

So far I'm very pleased with the quality of the streaming I'm getting from vudu. But today I turned on the Matrix and after a few minutes I noticed I wasn't getting any sound from the rear speakers. I double checked to make sure it was streaming HDX, and it was, then I checked the menu. It was then I noticed that the sound quality was only stereo. I was under the impression with HDX that the video is 1080p and the sound is dobly digital plus. I then started checking all the movies I had converted. Most were digital 5.1, some were digital plus, and a few were only stereo.

While it's not a deal breaker, it is disappointing that some of the HDX movies are only stereo.

Are you sure that the original movies were released in 5.1 DD? I know on the ones that I converted to D2D, the original movies were only stereo and that's why they were only stereo on D2D.

A few that I remember off the top of my head are Matrix, Mission Impossible 3, Batman Begins and Fifth Element. They should definitely have at least dolby digital 5.1. Now if it was a really old movie, that would be understandable.

And the weird thing about Fifth Element is the HDX is Dolby Stereo and HD is 5.1. That's got to be a mistake.

Yeah, sounds like a mistake to me.

I noticed that too on the Matrix trilogy. My Matrix DVDs are all Dolby Digital 5.1, but HDX is only Stereo. So the Disc to Digital "upgrade" is Better video, worse sound, not a great deal.

I also converted the Lord of the Rings Trilogy Disc to HDX digital. The first movie is Stereo, the other two are DD 5.1.

Is there a place to request from the content team to upgrade these stereo movies to DD 5.1 like the DVDs?

Yes this is unacceptable. I just went through a bunch of my movies and several, especially older ones but some relatively newer ones, were in stereo. Doesn't make any sense and hopefully it get fixed over time.

I was going to post about this as well but I'll just chime in on this thread and hopefully the Vudu team takes this to heart. I've used Vudu for a long time (well before Wal*Mart ever got involved) and have generally been pleased with the service. However, I just converted over 200 movies and I am pretty upset that some of the biggest movies of all time (The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, etc.) have only stereo sound...this is unacceptable. I've paid over $400 to upgrade every movie that was eligible and yet a number of movies I own on Blu-ray just got downgraded by not having AT LEAST Dolby Digital 5.1. Should many of these have DD+...yup. At least make the effort to provide the basic 5.1 soundtrack...come on Vudu! No more of my movies will be converted until this is fixed.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is annoyed with this. There really is no excuse for not having at least a 5.1 track like the dvd.

I know it's not necessarily vudu's fault, because they use what the studios provide them, but they should definitely demand better.

Agreed but why would the studios send them a master copy with only a stereo track? Vudu engineers care to chime in?

It might not be the Vudu engineers that need to chime in but the Vudu content team who I never hear from on these forums?
