Re: FORREST GUMP UPGRADE TO HDX?

This is unrelated to the forest Gump thing... but since content is being addressed... the D2D list shows both "Superman 2" and "Superman 2: The Richard Donner Cut" but they both seem to link to the same movie (the regular superman 2)...

Even though the movies have the same plot the changes give a very different (more serious) feel to the RD cut making them in effect very different movies So if the RD cut is not available for streaming you may want to take it off the D2D list.

The same goes for Army of Darkness vs 'Bruce Campbell vs. Army of Darkness: The Director's Cut - Official Bootleg Edition'

Though those are in effect the same movie with a few extra scenes and an ALT ending... well you know how persnickety us cult movie fans can be... and I would have been... annoyed to have my Bootleg Edition stamped only to find out i got the wrong movie...

Fortunately for me in both in both cases I was going to do D2D for both versions at the same time so I saw that they linked to the same film before taking them in.

I checked and re-encode is still pending, probably waiting for the correct stream from the studio...

This is the first time I've noticed this issue. Normally I rent, and usually the 99? special at that. But I've rented HDX streams many times with my Sony Blue Ray player. It's my only registered device. I was using it to try to buy the movie.

Edit: I just tried again, and I was successful in getting the HDX stream. Now I just need to get a 1080 TV! I hope it's widescreen.

Actually - currently you cannot purchase HD or HDX unless you have an activated device that supports those qualities (idea is to prevent customers from buying something they can't watch and then calling customer care - this might be changed to a "strong warning" in the future as some customers do want to buy HDX for future use...)

Just a wild guess, then - could your device have been deactivated? If not, sounds like it could be a bug related to this "feature". Oh - and was this just for Forrest Gump, or for all titles?

I tried to attach a pic, but the upload failed. Can we not attach pictures to posts?

Maybe you're right echo but it's really strange. When I search for Forrest Gump on Vudu's search feature it appears in the search and in the D2D search but when I search for "The Godfather Part II" it doesn't appear in the search through Vudu or D2D. The Godfather II was available through Vudu and D2D. I purchased GFII through D2D It's still showing in my movie list but I am unable to play the movie. The Godfather II playback was excellent. Nothing was wrong with the movie except the subtitles didn't show during scenes in Sicily I am still able to play Forrest Gump.

stevetb, wondering how you purchased Forrest Gump, directly from Vudu, D2D or through UV redemption?

Even with the issues, I love Vudu. It's still a good service. However, I am a bit wary of UV redemption after reading about the issues here on the forums and with D2D. I redeemed the Spider-Man movies through UV redemption, hopefully they won't disappear from my UV account like some others have.

I can still find Forrest Gump when I do a search. It has not been removed. And the movie is still advertised as HDX ENHANCED WIDESCREEN. Another customer has been mislead believing they are getting an enhanced widescreen HDX version of the movie.

There have been numerous comments regarding Forrest Gump since my first post in April.....

Why is Forrest Gump still being advertised and sold as enhanced widescreen in HDX? I'm not sure what the pricing is when the movie is bought directly from Vudu? I'm out 5.00 until the movie is fixed but if a customer buys the movie directly from Vudu, they could be out as much as 22.99 depending on pricing.

Steve, always use the 2 minute preview to see the screen format and picture quality before you purchase a movie whether purchasing directly from Vudu or through D2D.

An FYI regarding other movies ...

I recently bought 3 of the Pirates of the Carabbean movies .."Dead Man's Chest" is being played in "Dobly Digital Stereo" with the HDX/HD version. Must view the SD version of the movie to hear the audio in "Dolby Digital Plus 5.1." The HDX version of Flashdance audio is playing only from the center speaker. Spider-Man 1 the audio in playing from the L/R speakers only with the HDX/HD version. Must view SD version to hear the audio in 5.1 surround.

Edit ...FYI regarding the other movies is for customer's. Vudu is aware of the issues with the movies I listed in this message.

No problem Dan. I realize when you receive the correct stream from the studio the issue will be fixed. I'm OK with that.

    Thanks again.
