ATTENTION MODS! WE NEED AN EXPLANTION FOR UV RESOLUTION DIFFERENCES!!!

As I have posted before it seemed to be somewhat clear cut on what resolution you would get form a movie studio from a packaged UV movie that would sync back to your Vudu account (Warner/Universal=SD, Sony/Paramount=HDX). Now things have become extremely confusing as some movies show in HDX on Vudu for some users while other users get the SD version with no real good explanation as to why. Recent Universal titles have been showing as HDX but some users are getting SD copies. Same with Warner Brothers. Complicating the matter is the fact that you can now redeem UV movie pack ins on Vudu now which brings us up to 3 possible places to register UV movies with some titles. Mods we just want an explanation as to what is going on with this. Are there any rules to this or are we living in the wild west? Do the studios think no one cares about HD because clearly we do? Thanks for the quick response.

I don't know if this is "for sure" or not but it seems I have better luck getting the HDX version if redeemed through the actual studio rather than using Vudu or Flixster. Have others noticed this as well?

Unfortunately for Warner those are the only options right now and those are the movies that seem to have the least consistency followed by Universal.

Seems to be a good rule. That is how I have done it with the exception of Wrath which I registered on Vudu because guys that I assume registered it on Flixster got the SD versions but going through Vudu didn't make a difference.

Universal gave me an SD copy of Safe House as opposed to the HDX if you redeem through with the VUDU option.

The definition will depend on who you redeem the code through. If you receive a ?PD? or ?SD? copy of a movie from another service or from the studio website, you'll get the SD version with VUDU as well. Whatever is assigned at the time of redemption is what you'll get with VUDU.

We're working to provide HD copies for all digital copies redeemed through VUDU, but this is still a work in progress.

If you feel you should have gotten a HD copy on VUDU and didn't, please submit a support ticket or give us a call at (888)554-VUDU. In some cases we may have to do a little research, but should be able to get you an answer
Thanks for the response. Maybe this is a dumb question but what is "?PD?"? Packaged Digital? What is with the question marks? I will put in a support ticket as to why my "Wrath of the Titans" submitted through Vudu is only SD.

Dan, I submitted a ticket for two movies that I redeemed through Flixster because that's what the instructions said to do, but where would I redeem codes through Vudu anyway? I'm logged into my account and I don't see anywhere to do that online. Does it need to be on a STB or Vudu-enabled device?

Dan, this is the response I got:

"Thank you for contacting VUDU Customer Care. I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately when you redeem a digital copy it is only in SD. There is no way to upgrade the copy to HDX. The only way to get an HDX version is to either purchase it on the site or take you Blu-Ray Disc down to Walmart for a Disc to Digital transaction for only $2.00. If you have any further questions please contact us.

Once again thank you for contacting VUDU Customer Care and have a great day.

                              Nicholas
