    UV screwed me over

I saw that UV had Young Guns 2 available in HDX. I no longer owned the DVD (since I had downloaded a 720p version) but I wanted it in 1080p. So I RE-bought the DVD and brought it to Wal-Mart.

I got home and checked out the movie in HDX and both the HD and HDX versions are "squished," for lack of a better phrase. There are black bars on all 4 sides of the image. It's a 2.35 AR film so I expect it on the top and bottom but the image has been squeezed to the center.

I contacted Vudu to let them know and they said I had to contact UV and what was the response I got?

Unfortunately, while Ultraviolet is a repository for the digital rights, we have no control over the movie streaming or downloads or the devices and software used to access them.

We apologize for the inconvenience but for assistance with these issues you will need to contact the respective provider where you downloaded the App or Desktop Software.
    So basically, sorry, but you're screwed. I wasted $8 on a movie that I didn't need...and now I don't get a refund.

Between this and losing a $40 credit on Vudu all in one week, I'm kinda done with both. Horrible customer service.

UV is just a format. The retailer and the studio provides the stream. I suggest contacting vudu customer support and asking them to re-encode the film. And you could also try to see if Flixster has the correct stream. Sometimes that is the case.

Unfortunately, as I said, Vudu referred me to Ultraviolet and they refused and said there was nothing they could do.

I already have 3 movies that Vudu has sent to their "Content Team" and this group then has to contact the studios to get the re-encoded movie. I've been waiting now for 3 months for one of the movies. Good luck getting the new re-encoded movie if they have to contact the studio.

How do I get someone to respond? Should I call the contact number for Vudu?

Did you ever get a refund?

Yes, I would call that number. I didn't want a refund but they did give me an account credit for the movie.

I have been waiting several months for vudu to re-encode Forest Gump, and Bewitched. I hope Amazon does a better job when they get UV up and running.

But isn't Amazon going to get the movie from the same source? If Amazon started today you may have the same version of Forest Gump and Bewitched. If the movie is re-encoded I would think Amazon would get it the same time frame as Vudu.

The retailers don't all have the same stream. Bewitched is widescreen on Flixster, and Forrest Gump is widescreen on Amazon.

                    Digital,

My apologies for your poor experience with customer care. Would you post your case number so we can take another look? I'll take a look at young guns as well, and get it sent over to our content team right away.

Forrest Gump has been re-encoded and has been added back to the service with the correct aspect ratio.

                      Our apologies for the delay.

The aspect ratio is still incorrect. Instead of 2.35:1 it is cropped to fit 16:9 (1.78:1).
