Re: CinemaNow & Ultraviolet Link - When?

Since CinemaNow and Vudu are direct competitors, do you thinking that studios are going to pick one over the other to give exclusivity to who get movies?

I did just look at BRAVE, and actually Vudu to buy in HDX only costs $22.99 vs. $24 at CinemaNow. So maybe Vudu is still going to run cheaper no matter what.

      PS. Happy Thanks Giving Everyone!
I am going to guess that their servers were probably taking a beating yesterday. I was able to see my movies and they all have the same thing "expired rental" I am sure it will be fixed soon. Happy Thanksgiving.

No, the studio won't pick one over the other. Maybe the one who is selling better (Vudu) may get some better deals, but the studios want as much as money from as many sources as possible. Plus not every smart device has a Vudu app and not every VOD user even knows about Vudu. Same for the other services.

And Vudu is not always cheaper. Right now, they both have Sherlock Homes 2 on sale, but CinemaNow's HD $2 cheaper than the HDX. MIB3 and Savages are cheaper on CN. Amazing Spider-Man is same price. Others are cheaper on Vudu. One of the nice things are having multiple UV digital retailers is you can compare prices. But not every retailer has all the same movies.

I will say Vudu has a much larger HD catalog (especially older releases) than CN who really needs to catch up. CN also doesn't seem to have any special features for their movies that have appearing more and more on Vudu.

prkprkprk, how long has it been? Mine took like 6-8 hours to appear.

ignore the "Rental Expired". The UV movies are playable via PC at the top right side next to your movies in a Grey colored box that scrolls down thru your movies.

Hopefully VUDU will be price matching CN. I see a few HD movies that are cheaper on CN.

                300 - $10.95
The Book of Eli - $10.95
                The Campaign -$12.95
                Inception - $5.95
                The Matrix - $10.95

                Here's other HD on sale:

Re: CinemaNow & Ultraviolet Link - When?

I'm missing about 14. Four didn't match properly and should have. Several missing from CN store. And a couple aren't UV enabled on CN. The following appear not to be UV enabled on CN (yet): any TV show, Lionsgate, Dreamworks Animation, Anchor Bay.

And yes, you can play through that box on the right, but it's really annoying. Once they fix them to not be Rental Expired, there should be a Play and Download link beneath each title.

Re: CinemaNow & Ultraviolet Link - When?

The other good point about CN is that Best Buy sometimes does exclusive CN digital offers when you buy the Blu-ray. For Prometheus, you got a free digital copy of the film three weeks early if you purchased the BD for $19.99. And unlike WM/Vudu, you can do this online. With WM you need to go into the store and buy a voucher. So I hope to see more BD/UV combo offers from CN.

Re: CinemaNow & Ultraviolet Link - When?

Some good news for me, some bad.

The good first. I decided to use some of my credit and bought a second movie from them. Strangers on a Train in HD for $10.95. It linked properly to my UV account (says SD and HD) and when it popped into vudu it was HDX!

The bad news. CinemaNOw still refuses to load my library on any device. Not my computer, PS3 or Iphone. I really wanted to see how their layout compared to vudu's jumbled mess. I know Vudu says they are working on a sort feature so I was kind of hoping to use Cinemanow temporarily until Vudu implemented the feature. I've also noticed that a lot of stuff is not labled as UV through them that are UV titles. Like Lionsgate and Anchor Bay titles.

The sort feature has been added, several days ago, in fact, at least on the SmartTV/Blu-Ray Players, Roku boxes etc...

I finally got my library loaded on the website 492 movies but I am missing about 70. The CN library is not alphabetical (BTW Vudu has a sort option for PS3 now) My PS3 still will not load the library same with the iPhone. I still do not understand why the movie I purchased on CN is not showing up in Vudu. :confused Maybe I will try another movie.

That is weird. I just bought another movie (Risky Business for $7.95) and it popped up within minutes (HDX too). I'm sure it will get sorted out. While I still prefer Vudu I must admit that Cinemanow sales blow Vudu's sales out of the water. If I didn't already have most of those HD movies they have on sale from d2d I would be all over that sale. I bought another set of codes from ebay to help fill in some of the gaps in my UV library. Nice to have another source.

Yeah it is weird. I am staying with Vudu as well. I do agree with you about the prices. I am sure Vudu will step up and go toe to toe with them and hopefully they will price match as well.

I guess the good thing is that we could still go over to CN and buy them and have them link back to our Vudu through our UVVU locker, but I've been seeing the Flixster name pop up in connection with CN and if that's the case I wont touch CN with a 10 foot pole.

Thanks for that link, those are some good purchase prices for sure from CN.
If there is a movie though I want I think D2D is still going to be the cheaper route for me (if) it's available that way vs. buying it.
