Here, Fandango at Home customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Fandango at Home and Fandango at Home -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc). Vudu movies without D2D

    Vudu movies without D2D

    Hello all,

    I am new here, but I was wondering... Why is it that you can go on Walmart.com and purchase movies like Hunger Games and The Avengers for Vudu, but you can not do disc to digital? I am sure it's probably something to do with the studios, but I have the Avengers on DVD and want to get it on Vudu/UV. Any ideas on how long until these movies become available for D2D?

    D2D is a tool to convert your old DVD's to a digital copy.

    New releases all generally come with a digital copy included.

      The only problem with this logic is that once these films start losing their digital copies you are out of luck. I recently noticed that new copies of some of the Warner movies (Contagion, Hangover 2, etc...) no longer come with digital copies. There's no way to get those once the old stock disappears.

        Is that how all of y'all feel? Is that a policy or something? Because me being a d2d user and vudu fan, I highly recommend changing that. Sure I just started, but I've already done like 6 d2d and have a total of about 11.

        So hear me out... Let's say I am a fan of Vudu and I don't have a blu-ray player. Most new movies on blu-ray come with the digital copy, not DVD's... (at least that I've seen) I go to purchase the DVD and get home to look it up on Vudu's d2d list, I then realize that I can't do it because it's not on the list. I am stuck with 2 choices. 1. Pay the 15 bucks to get it from Vudu. 2. Go without and don't use the Vudu service for my movie. I don't know how many others on here would do it, but I'd do number 2. I bought the Avengers on DVD and it did NOT come with a digital copy, so I was disappointed to not be able to use Vudu d2d. =( I really think y'all should reconsider not having new movies, as a lot of people would probably be more happy if they had the option to use d2d with their new DVDs. Just my opinion, anyone else feel that way?

          To clarify - VUDU is not the one choosing which movies allow D2D, it's the content owners (studios). They also choose whether a movie includes a digital copy.

          As you can imagine, of course we'd like to provide every movie in every quality for purchase and rental with 48 hour+ viewing windows, with D2D and UV, etc. But most of those choices are up to the content owner in the end. Going forward (especially with UltraViolet) the industry is moving towards digital copies provided with physical media purchases...

            Well... I guess someone needs to straighten these movie studios out, don't they? Haha... Too bad... I really wanted to put The Avengers on through d2d, but I don't have another 15-20 bucks to get the digital copy. =( Thanks for the replies though.

                Now that I think about it a little more. How come the Avengers is on Vudu to buy but not d2d? Is that Vudu's choice or the choice of the movie studios?

                      Battleship is a new release. So it most likely comes with a Digital copy included.

                      We have filed the feature request for a wishlist feature for D2D as well.

                        I understand it's not Vudu's fault, but it seems like this is designing D2D to fail by the studios then. Eventually those using the D2D process will end up running out of movies to convert. It just seems strange that at the beginning of d2d new releases were being added every week by most studios, but then they just stopped.

                          I agree with madmod...

                          Plus like I said... I am not going to buy a blu-ray disc just to get the digital copy... I buy DVDs... I am stuck in the DVD world and most DVDs now days don't come with the digital/uv copy... They're shooting themselves in the foot by mainly putting them with blu-rays only... If you go here http://www.walmart.com/ip/Battleship...creen/21119217, you see that the DVD doesn't come with a digital copy/uv and I am not going to pay the extra 10+ dollars to get a blu-ray with it. I just really think new releases should also be d2d... Just saying..
