I sure hope VUDU puts our movie list we own in alphabetical order because having to scroll through a mess of scattered titles is no fun for those of us who will fill our account

    Re: Alphabetize

I agree that they need to add sorting options to all there apps and website. A great start would be to list them in alphabetical order....

I'm at 115 listings and mine can be difficult, yours is really a mess to look at with that many titles. Almost impossible to find the one you want without organization...

I agree I have about 530 movies and it is a pain in the arse to find a movie.

I know that all this list is, is a display of items on the database. I work with databases on a daily basis and know that it's really easy to sort data alphabetically so I don't know why Vudu would take so long to add this feature?

I don't work with databases every day, yet I also know it's really easy to sort them alphabetically.

I talked to a one of Vudu's CSR about alphabetizing and what a pain it is going through 497 movies. He mentioned that he understands the issues but Vudu has no plan to bring such a feature. He also mention that they don't have the technical coding ability to bring such a feature. My response in my mind..."What a crock!!!" I work with databases and webpage and sorting from A to Z is such a basic necessity and need. Easy to implement too.

My AppleTV sorts from A to Z. No reason why Vudu can do the same.

Maybe they haven't licensed the alphabet yet... (sarcasm intended).

Wow that is really disappointing to hear! I submitted some site feedback along the lines of sorting our digital libraries. I really hope the CSR didn't know what they were talking about when it comes to the companies capabilities... As my library continues to grow (mostly UV titles), I'll end up having to use a new provider at some point just so I can easily access my media if Vudu doesn't do anything about it...

They should just port the sorting functions that exist for browsing for movies and tv shows. That includes all the fields we could pretty much want by default and then just give users the ability to have a default setting for sorting (such as alphabetically)...

I expect the CSR has a case of Cranial Rectitis...or is just reading the script...being a CSR really is a sucky/thankless job though. And if Vudu doesn't have people that can do this...I have not finished my MS in Computer Science yet, and have another year-long obligation, but next fall I will be available to help solve the issue (for a fee, of course).

So you are saying they can't sort anything? Challenge Accepted, and found on the site already! Well TF with that, look at their "Browse" page
                    http://www.vudu.com/movies/#browse/

IT IS ALREADY IMPLEMENTED ON THE SITE

JUST MOVE THAT FUNCTIONALITY OVER TO "MY VUDU" AND WE WILL BE HAPPY. THE WHOLE THING IS ALREADY CODED FFS.

                    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe the problem is that since the Xbox has the search function already built into their App, and others don't, maybe they don't want to make life hard on themselves and complicate things making 3+ different sorting algorithms.

                    --Solution--

                    My Account
                    --Account Info

                    Sort Movies By[listbox]
                    1) A to Z
                    2) Release Date
                    3) Purchase Date
                    4) Tomato Meter
                    5) Top Picks
                    6) Most Watched

That way it is BUILT INTO the account and no matter which system / device you watch it on, it is predefined to sort based off of the account settings. You can't tell me that the account settings is useless on devices as you have to log into the device with the information on that page. Because you are already calling information from that page, make another function named "sort" and make the SortMyVudu(MyAccountSort.GetSelectedIndex) where the GetSelectedIndex represents one of the 6 sorting methods posted above. Again though, you already have this feature added to "a section" of the site. Please move it "to another section as well".

                    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
99.95% of my movies are UV compatible, meaning if Vudu does not implement a sorting function, I will wait until another company does and I will go to BestBuy (for example) and use their CinemaNow D2D (if that ever goes UV compatible). There already is a sorting function for "ALL" movies on this site. Just repurpose the code and implement it to sort only "OWNED" movies. Hell, in the browse section, make another sorting bar with the options "all / owned / not owned". And even that is already 75% done for you!

But if they fix it how will I get them to pay me to fix it? I think the 'Account Settings' sort is a valid, maybe even necessary option. Avoid having to re-sort after the app is loaded. Again, my hope is for a local solution through CFF, a NAS setup, and XBMC (or, hopefully, any DLNA capable device)...then I can serve myself my content however I want, ftp, http, etc.

I agree with this in a lot of ways because I eventually want to have all my own CFF's stored on a server/nas in my own house and a device with an interface such as XBMC to play them all back. However,

I agree that this is a much needed fix for the website and all apps that have Vudu has. Thankfully the Xbox 360 does have some basic sorting functions that work but are not as advanced as the browsing page of this site.

I (of course) agree... and have stated such many times...

This isn't complicated... they all ready have the code. The "sort by" code at least works within a narrowed parameters search

it really seems to be a simple matter of ctrl+c ctrl+z....

initially I thought the reason they didn't want to add it was because they wanted you to search for your movies via the Browse feature thus increasing the chance of an "Impulse purchase" but considering the browse feature omits movies you own that are not currently for sale that either cannot be the plan or the plan is flawed.

Honestly Vudu... do yourself a favor and stop alienating your member base...

And oh yeah... we still want an acctual list for D2D titles and an upgrade to HDX option.
