    Progress of UV

5 million people now have UV accounts, and there are 7200 UV titles available. UV has not been growing at a very fast rate. It was 4 million about 3 months ago, so it has really slowed down.

Some companies still haven't been pushing it much like Fox. But that is starting to change with the newer titles. I don't think it will really take off till set top boxes support it, the CFF files are available, and greater title support.

For example I was at walmart and saw they had I Robot 3D out on display (early) but the movie didn't include a UV digital copy. If it had, I would have purchased it. I'm pretty much buying only movies that come with UV digital copies or movies that are able to D2D. (I already own I, Robot on blu-ray but can't D2D yet )

I would also expect as more TV series support it, it should gain more growth along with the additional countries having access in the near future.

Not surprising since they've done almost nothing with UV in the past few months. A couple Lionsgate movies and adding a UV next to Fox movies with no way to upgrade already purchased movies isn't going to draw in too many new customers. It also seems like Samsung gave up on their home D2D solution seeing as how pressing the d2d button on their players just gives you instructions on how to go to Walmart to do it. Speaking of Walmart, another problem seems to have risen. Staff turnover. The "good" Walmart now has new staff working the photo center and I was turned away from that store for the first time as no one would even try to pick up the manual to figure it out.

Yeah, know what you mean. After 6 months, there still seems to be no training for the D2D at Walmart. I made the mistake of going (on the weekend) to the same Walmart I always go to during the week and the lady that usually does it for me was out. The weekend lady told me that the machine wasn't working but I'm sure it was she couldn't find the screen she needed to do the D2D stuff. I went to another Walmart close to me and it took 3 people (one was even off of work) and my couching 40 minutes to do the one movie I had taken in for D2D. It is definitely not getting better as far as the Walmart staff is concerned. I will have to remember to go during the week next time.

It only took a few minutes at my WalMart, and they don't do alot of D2D, they told me. They had to follow written instructions, but they got it done.

It was that way with the girl who used to work the photo counter at my Walmart too, but I guess they moved her.

Yeah, I kept telling them that there is a notebook with all the instructions but they couldn't even find that.

                Re: Progress of UV

I have a major problem with Walmart being able to handle the simple transaction of converting my DVDs to digital. I live in the Chattanooga, TN area and I have four Walmarts that are fairly close to my home. The two Walmarts closest to my home don't have a clue! Between the other two locations I have been able to find only two employees that can do this.

I have been complaining about this for about five months now. I haven't seen any progress in training employees.

                  Re: Progress of UV

I must be out of the norm, but the employees in my local area are not terribly familiar with the process, but they always just grab the instruction manual and follow the steps and it takes about 15 minutes to get everything done. (I always have my movies already inputted into D2D making it easier and I don't bother to print the list anymore because they don't need it anyways)

However, of the two Walmart's I've been too, one doesn't have the stamp and the other Walmart's stamps don't work (ink related problems). So its actually been really nice to keep my discs clean as an added benefit.

                    Re: Progress of UV

My store's stamp ran out of ink, so now they use it with an ink pad...sometimes they stamp the center ring, as the stamp is designed to be used, but this last time I watched as the lady stamped one of my double-sided dvds on the B-side play surface...rubbing alcohol was my friend on that one.

I'd say if there's any way you can get the login info, memorize it so you can train employees on the spot. At my location I can see the screen on the computer they use, so I just walk them through the steps, even had one lady let me type in my email address for the customer search (which is not required if they put in your phone number).

                    My stores info is:
Store Number: 4-digit store number, adding preceeding zeros as required (ie 0xxx)
                    Employee Id: MediaConversion
Password: Vudu0xxx (0xxx = same number as above)
These are case-sensitive, anyone know if their store is the same format?

                      Re: Progress of UV

The only store that has been able to help me has only two employees that know how to do the disc to digitial...the others don't even know where they keep their folder with the instructions.

They gave up on trying to stamp my disks and they, like me, don't see the point so they don't even try to do it any more.

Also, I wonder why we can't take in our old VHS movies and convert to digital? Yes, I still have a few that I kept until I get DVD replacements for them.

I have no problem doing it at my walmart. I actually had a customer ask me if they wanted me to stamp the disc and I went no thanks. She was like that is good because it is a hassle. Don't know why anyone would say yes to her.

I live in the Lakeland FL area & use the Northside Walmart. Only 1 time did I have a long wait but after that, it seems as if 4 or 5 staffers know how to do it and going like clockwork for me.

And here I thought I was the only customer who had this issue. I've walked at least 4 different Walmart employees at 2 different stores though the process. One has the username/password on a sticky on the monitor.
