Re: VUDU AT HOME: DISC-TO-DIGITAL Bugs?

I have been reporting discs that the new VUDU at home software will not recognize to tech support but I'll list them here as well plus the ones that failed for me during a scanning session today:

In a six-disc DVD set of Harry Potter, "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone" would not be recognized. The other five titles were found correctly.

In a four-disc DVD set of "Dirty Harry", "Magnum Force", "The Enforcer" and "Sudden Impact", all 4 discs are recognized as "Dirty Harry".

In a four-disc DVD set of "Die Hard", "Die Harder", "Die Hard with a Vengeance" and "Live Free or Die Hard" only the last disc "Live Free and Die Hard" was recognized.

The single DVD "Air Force One" was not recognized.

The single DVD "The 6th Day" was not recognized.

The single DVD "Druids" was not recognized.

The single DVD "The Beast" was not recognized.

The single DVD "The Order" was not recognized.

The single DVD "Midway" was not recognized.

The single DVD "The Seventh Sign" was not recognized.

The single DVD "Die Hard" was not recognized.

The single DVD "Planet of the Apes (2001 remake) was not recognized.

I do hope the VUDU engineers are reading this thread and trying to correct the problems as I would like to take advantage of the 50% discount on conversion fees during this beta period. I'm a little skeptical as I reported the issues with Die Hard, etc. almost three weeks ago and retried it today and it still is not recognized.

Two DVDs I've tried give the error "There was an error reading this disc.

You may take this disc to your nearest Walmart store for instant conversion."

    2001: A Space Odyssey
    UPC 0-12569-55392-7

    Babylon 5: The Lost Tales

Vudu To Go Beta doesn't recognize multiple versions on the same disc.

    For example...

I have Date Night on blu ray and the single disc contains both the Theatrical and Unrated Extended version. The software only recognizes the Theatrical version. The same problem exists on The Blue Brothers 100th Anniversary discs. It only recognizes the Unrated version not the Theatrical version.

    Please fix this issue.

I had to do that one at Wal-Mart unfortunately.

I don't mean to "over post" but this one is new

I just tried Spartacus on DVD, and got the option to convert any and all 6 films in the Stanley Kubric Collection.

    Eyes Wide Shut
    Full Metal Jacket
    Dr. Strangelove
    Lolita
    The Shining
    2001: A Space Odyssey

    I can't get Spartacus......

I just tried The Fifth Element on a Windows XP machine, and it wouldn't work there, either.

Just fyi...I tried the same, 2-sided DVD, with another service, and it recognized the disk correctly.

I don't think this is a Windows 8 issue. I was able to convert 48 blu's/dvd's using an external blu ray and laptop with Windows 8. It's still very hit or miss on many of the movies as listed in this thread because I got disc read errors on the 2 sided DVD of As Good As It Gets. I even tried uninstalling but it still won't work.

Perhaps it's because they're older versions, and the databases don't have them? (pure speculation on my part).

To expand on this...I've been an applications developer for over 30 years, and spent a lot of time debugging. A few things come to mind:

    1) Matching may be done on more than just title...without seeing the table schemas I can't know for sure
    2) DRM. The older disks have no copy protection. Perhaps the app can't tell if it's a legitimate copy.

    Again, this is all speculation.

Yes, it was one of the first DVDs I converted to HDX.
