    Spider-Man (2002) and Young Guns 2 quality...

    Young Guns 2:

Both HD and HDX play in 4:3 with pillar box. The SD copy plays in a zoomed widescreen with no letterbox bars. The original DVD is widescreen 2.35:1. Used Disc 2 Digital to convert.

    Spider-Man (2002):

Looks like crap in HDX. Worse than the DVD. Strange thing about this one is that it actually shows the FBI Warning at the beginning almost like you are watching the DVD and not a digital copy.

I'm hoping some other fans of these movies have seen these problems so we can all put in a complaint to get these 2 classics fixed ASAP.

Good luck getting a fix ASAP. I've been waiting 6 months now for an audio fix and it hasn't come. Vudu is saying that the studio hasn't fixed it and I believe them so we're at the mercy of the studio as usual.

Hopefully as we move over to the Common File Format they'll re-encode all the older titles with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 and decent transfers as they go. It seems nuts having a set of pretty major titles, things like The Matrix Trilogy, Independence Day etc having things like Stereo only Sound or in Spider-Man's case a really poor encode.

Did you get both of these via D2D, and if so do you remember when?

For YG2 we may actually have a better encode that is in QC, I'm checking.

I tried Spider-Man and the HDX looks fine to me. (the FBI warning is in the movie, and is fairly common for digital streams as well). If you play the HDX from the web stream does it still look bad? (maybe it was fixed already?)

I just got VAMPIRES (John Carpenter) in HDX and the quality is absolutely HORRID. It's a fake, oversharpened, SD upconvert with barely any fine detail, that they're calling HD. My Columbia "Superbit" DVD version of VAMPIRES looks better than the one offered in HDX on Vudu.

Haven't watched it in a while, but the Hedwig and the Angry Inch HDX that I got back when d2d first launched was terrible. Super grainy. And not in a "All film has grain" type of way.

Young Guns 2 was disc to digital using the app when it first became available. Spider-Man was a digital copy. The 2 min preview has the same poor quality, compression artifacts, etc. It still looks the same.

They might be working on Young Guns 2. I have tried it everyday since purchase to see if it's been fixed and now even the SD version is in 4:3, so they changed something.

My Spider-Man 2002 DVD (UPC 043396096615) plays as streched SD in all three playback versions. I tried it using Vudu website, Vudu to Go app, and Samsung Tv Vudu built in app.

I bought the HDX version last night using the at home beta, 'Vudu to Go' app.

Spider-Man HDX looks good now and doesn't begin with the warning anymore. They changed Young Guns 2 HDX to full screen and added Dolby 5.1. It still only looks slightly better than the DVD which is in letterbox, but I have to say that I am impressed that a post on this forum was able to get these titles fixed (almost).
