    Oh Snap !

    @ 18.88 I would have got it ! ! !

I really don't want to have to walk in there each week, I hate that place. At least the one by me. Always messy, always unstocked, hardly ever any blu-rays brought in.

I understand they can't adverise these things. If only there was a post somewhere that was updated each week. I would make the trek to a father and nicer Wal-Mart.

Rise of the Guardians was actually in the ad the week it came out for the $18.96 price so its worth looking in the ads.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but it seems the origial question was not definitevely answered (hint hint to any Vudu staff checking these forums!):

Is there a way to know IN ADVANCE, i.e. not just a day or a week but a couple months ahead, what dates you will start offering rentals of new titles before the official release date? I frequently host movie nights at my home and it would be great for planning purposes to know the actual dates Vudu will be making specific titles avilable (and not just a blanket response like "the official release date for movie X is....". It's a real bummer when you plan a movie night for what you thought was the first chance to watch a new release, only to find out a week before that it's already available.

        Cheers

Well we really can't give that information out so far in advance. Just like pricing and availability, that's all dictated by the studio. We do post upcoming movies in the "Coming Soon" area of our website. including the dates when it will be available for rental and/or purchase. Sometimes titles get pushed back and sometimes they want it available sooner.

Frustrating I know. Typically all we see is new this week. Really annoying when new releases often come out on Tuesday and the week starts on Sunday. It's funny to take to various Vudu people and see how those announcements from Vudu hit people email sometime several days apart, sometimes on the day. Even when they work at the same company in the same building so it's going through all the same servers.

Honestly I don't know if Vudu is really capable of doing this, or doing it easily. I know DirecTV tell's we like 1-3 months in advance but then they're a MUCH larger company (ignoring Wal-Mart backing). Besides that fact that DirecTV is only serving the rental market so they only have one date to deal with. Vudu is dealing with Rental and Sales on the same title so on the same web page they often have to list two dates, one rent, one sale. On top of that I've seen them also have different dates for SD and HD/HDX as well for whatever reason. So for one title Vudu Vudu might have 3-4 dates. Thankfully Vudu keeps the 3D versions as separate titles with their own pages and dates otherwise that might add more complications.

The only thing I can think is a text list (or dump) that has "Available To Rent Date" Columns for each of the versions. This is just another variation of other users requesting being able to extract lists of their "My Movies" titles.

Technically all this data is on Vudu's servers and to some extent "much" of what you and others are asking for asking for is actually publicly available on the website but Vudu just hasn't invested any funds into an interface for us to get to it. Other users are working on ways for us to SCRAPE the data to get there but obviously it's not pretty and since it's their spare time who know when they will get there.

I personally would love Vudu to do this as well. Problem is I would love them to do a bunch of stuff and I do think they have enough of user base to generate enough revenue to reinvest back into the business for further growth. That's been my problem with them for years. Too slow of growth. But with Disney switching switching away from iTunes for Vudu and people being forced to Amazon or Vudu who knows. Maybe you'll get it soon enough.
